MATERIALS—Lily Rug Yarn, Art. 241:—12-skeins in desired color. Crochet hook size H-6. Size—21" x 38".

Ch 32, sk last st, sc in next 13 sts, ch 49, sk last st, sc in next 13 sts, ch 19, sk last st, sc in next 18 sts, * sk 1st sc, sc in both lps on next 11 sc, 3 sc in next sc, 3 sc in 1st st on other side, sc in next 11 sts, sk end st, * sc in next 35 ch sts. Repeat from * to *. Sc in next 18 ch sts. Work following rows in back lps only. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn and in back lps, sc in next 17 sc, * sk 2 sc in angle, sc in next 11 sc, 3 sc in next (corner) st, sc in next 2 sc across end, 3 sc in next (corner) st, sc in next 11 sc, sk 2 sc in angle, * sc in next 33 sc. Repeat from * to *. Sc in next 17 sc to end,—complet­ing one rib. The right side of this row is the right side of rug. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across to 2d from angle (1 less sc than last row), * sk 2 sc in angle, sc in next 11 sc, 3 sc in next (corner) sc, ** sc in each sc across end (2 more than last row and al­ways an even no.) 3 sc in next (corner) sc, sc in next 11 sc, sk 2 sc in angle, * sc in each sc across to 2d from angle (2 less than last row). Repeat from * to *. Sc across to end (1 less than last row). Repeat Row 3 six times. ROW 10—Repeat Row 3 to **. * Sc in next 9 sc (halfway across end), ch 14, sk last ch st, 13 sc on ch, sc in next 9 sc, 3 sc in next st, sc in 11 sc, sk 2 sc in angle, * sc across to 2d sc from angle, sk 2 sc in angle, sc in 11 sc, 3 sc in next st. Repeat from * to *. Sc to end. ROW 11—Repeat Row 3 to **. * Sc in 9 sc, sk 2 sc in angle, sc thru both lps of next 11 sc, 3 sc in end sc, 3 sc in 1st st on other side, sc in 11 sts, sk 2 sts in angle, and in back lps only, sc in 9 sc, 3 sc in corner sc, sc in 11 sc, sk 2 sc in angle, * sc across to 2d sc from angle, sk 2 sc in angle, sc in 11 sc, 3 sc in corner sc. Repeat from * to *. Sc to end. Repeat from * to *. Sc to end. Continue in the same way for 5 more rows (thru Row 17). ROW 18—Ch 1, turn, sk last 3 sc, sc in next 11 sc, 3 sc in corner and continue around to 4th sc from end. Sk 2 sc in final angle, sl st in end sc. Fasten off. Turn work over, wrong-side-up, and sew together the center slit, from the corner sc at each top corner, down to bottom of slit, going thru both lps of each st. ROW 19—Sk sl st and last 12 sc, sc in next 10 sc, * sk 2 sc in angle, 11 sc, 3 sc in corner sc, sc across end, 3 sc in corner, 11 sc, sk 2 sc in angle, * 9 sc, 1 sc in joining of slit, 9 sc. Repeat from * to *. 10 sc. Repeat from Row 10. Repeat Row 3 eight times. Re­peat Row 18 and sew together center slit.

Make a 2d piece. Hold right side together and crochet together with a sl st thru both lps of each st across last row of each piece (center of rug). Work very tightly.

EDGE—Work sc all around, putting (1 sc in 7 rows of sts, sk the 8th row or st) repeated. Put 3 sc in corners. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in both lps of each sc with 3 sc in corners. Repeat once. ROW 4—Ch 1, turn, 1 sl st in each sc. Fasten off. Stretch and pin right-side-down in true shape on a large padded table or board. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.

FLUFF FRINGE—Wind 2 strands yarn 10 times around a ½" card. Cut at one edge. Tie a tuft to every 3d sc around edge.
