MATERIALS—Lily Knitting and Crochet Cotton Yarn, Art. 600:—4½-skeins Black. Crochet hook size 0. 2-Black shoe buttons, and 2-White pearl buttons ½" size, for eyes.

Make in short loop stitches, worked tightly.

BODY—Ch 26, 3 lp sts in 2d st, 23 lp sts on ch, 5 lp sts in end st, 23 lp sts on other side of ch, 2 lp sts in next st, sl st in 1st lp st. ROW 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in sl st, (3 sc, 20 hdc, 9 sc, 20 hdc and 3 sc) around on last row, sl st in 1st sc. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, a lp st in sl st, 55 lp sts around and join. ROW 4—Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in sl st, 4 sc, 20 hdc and 3 sc. 3 sc in next st, 3 sc, 20 hdc, 5 sc and join. ROW 5—Ch 1, turn, 60 lp sts and join. ROW 6—Like Row 4, except 22 hdc on each side. ROW 7—Ch 1, turn, 64 lp sts and join. ROW 8—Ch 1, turn, 64 sc and join. Repeat Rows 7 and 8 three times and Row 7 again. ROW 16—Ch 1, turn, 30 sc, (sc in next 2d sc) twice, 30 sc and join. Repeat Row 23. Repeat from * once (78 sts in last 4 rows). Do not join following rows. ROW 38—Ch 1, turn, sk sl st, sc around to 2d from end (76 sc). ROW 39—Ch 1, turn, sk last sc, lp sts around to 2d sc from end (74 lp sts). Repeat Rows 38 and 39 twice, each row 2 sts shorter. ROW 44—Ch 1, turn, sk last sc, 29 sc, (sc in next 2d st) 4 times, 27 sc (60 sc). Repeat Row 39 (58 lp sts). ROW 46—Ch 1, turn, sk last st, 25 sc, (sc in next 2d st) 4 times, 23 sc. Repeat Row 39 (50 lp sts). ROW 48—Ch 1, turn, sk 1 st, 18 sc, (sc in next 2d st) 6 times, 18 sc. Repeat Row 39 (40 lp sts). Repeat Row 48 (except only 13 sc on each side of decreases), and Row 39 (30 lp sts). Repeat Row 48 (8 sc on each side of decs.), and Row 39 (20 lp sts). HEAD—Ch 15, 2 lp sts in 2d st, 12 lp sts on ch, 3 lp sts in end st, 13 lp sts on other side of ch, sl st in 1st lp st. (Ch 1, turn, 30 sc and join. Ch 1, turn, 30 lp sts and join) 3 times. ROW 8—Ch 1, turn, * 14 sc, (2 sc in next sc) twice. 14 sc and join. *ROW 9—Ch 1, turn, 32 lp sts and join. ROW 10—Ch 1, turn, sk sl st and repeat Row 8 from * to *. Repeat Row 9. ROW 12—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc, 2 sc in next st, sc around with 2 sc in end lp st and join. ROW 13—Ch 1, turn, lp sts around, with a widening at beginning and end of row, and join. ROW 14—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc, (2 sc in next st) twice, sc around, inc. one in center, 2 sc in 2 end sts and join. ROW 27—Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, 16 lp sts, a lp st in next 2d st, 16 lp sts. ROW 28—Ch 1, turn, sk 1 st, 10 sc, (sc in next 2d st) twice, 5 sc, (sc in next 2d st) twice, 9 sc. ROW 29—Ch 1, turn, sk 1 sc, 8 lp sts, (a lp st in next 2d st) twice, 4 lp sts, ( a lp st in next 2d st) twice, 1 lp sts. ROW 30—Ch 1, turn, sk 1 st, 5 sc, (sc in next 2d st) 6 times, 5 sc. TAIL—Ch 2, 3 lp sts in 1st st. Ch 1, turn, 3 sc. ROW 3—Ch 1, turn, 2 lp sts in 1st and last sts, 1 lp st in center st. ROW 4—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in each st. ROW 5—Ch 1, turn, lp sts across with 2 lp sts in 1st and last sts. Repeat Rows 4 and 5 thru Row 15. Fasten off and sew sides together.

FRONT LEG—Ch 25, sl st in 1st st. Ch 1, a lp st in same st, 24 lp sts on ch, sl st in 1st lp st. (Ch 1, turn, 25 sc and join. Ch 1, turn, 25 lp sts and join) 3 times. Fasten off. PAD—Ch 2, 7 sc in 1st st and join. Ch 2, 2 hdc in same st, (2 hdc in next st, 3 hdc in next) 3 times and join. Fasten off. Sew in bottom of leg. Make 2.

BACK LEG—Ch 17, sl st in 1st st. Ch 1, a lp st in same st, 16 lp sts on ch, sl st in 1st lp st. Ch 1, turn, 7 sc, (sc in next 2d st) twice, 6 sc and join. Ch 1, turn, 15 lp sts and join. Ch 1, turn, 15 sc and join. Ch 1, turn, 15 lp sts and join. Ch 1, turn, 6 sc, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc, 2 sc in next st, 6 sc and join. Ch 1, turn. 17 lp sts and join. Ch 1, turn, 5 hdc, 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc, 2 sc in next st, 2 sc, 5 hdc and join. Ch 1, turn, 19 lp sts and join. Ch 1, turn, 6 hdc, 2 sc, 2 sc in next st, 1 sc, 2 sc in next st, 2 sc, 6 hdc and join. Ch 1, turn, 21 lp sts and join. Fasten off. PAD—Ch 3, 9 hdc in 1st st and join. Fasten off. Sew in bottom of leg. Make 2. Stuff Body and Head very hard with cotton or rags, and sew together at neck. Cup Ears and sew close together with top of Head. Stuff Tail and Legs and sew on. With Black Six Strand Floss, embroider a half circle for nose. Break out space between holes in pearl buttons, slip shank of shoe button thru and sew one on each side of Head for Eyes. Tie a ribbon bow around neck.
