MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. A.104
, Size 30: 2 balls each of No. 37 Dk. Lavender and No. 46-B Beauty Rose and 1 ball of White.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 6 and No. 10.
Ribbon and flowers. ... A doll 7 ½ inches tall; waist 4 ¾ inches.

Use one strand each of Dk. Lavender and Beauty Rose throughout and No. 6 hook.

UNDERSKIRT ... Starting at waist, make a chain to reach loosely around doll's waist. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, * dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in first dc, * dc in next 2 dc, make 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in first dc, dc in each dc, increasing 6 dc evenly across—to inc 1 dc, make 2 dc in 1 dc. Ch 3, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Repeat 3rd row, sl st in top of starting chain. Now work in rnds as follows: 1st to 13th rnds incl: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, dc in each dc, increasing 6 dc evenly around. Join. Break off at end of 13th rnd.

OVERSKIRT ... Starting at waist, make a chain to reach loosely around doll's waist. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, 2 dc in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in first dc, * dc in next dc, make 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in first dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Dc in first dc, dc in each dc, increasing 6 dc evenly across. Ch 3, turn. 5th row: Repeat 3rd row, sl st in top of starting chain. Now work in rnds: 1st rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, dc in each dc, increasing 6 dc evenly around. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd to 6th rnds incl: Repeat first and 2nd rnds alternately. 7th rnd: Repeat first rnd. Join and break off. Place Overskirt and Underskirt together and, working through both thicknesses, sc closely around.

BODICE ... Using a single strand of White and No. 10 hook, attach thread to waist of Skirt. 1st row: Ch 3, dc in first ch, * dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Picking up the front loop of each dc, skip first dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Picking up the back loop of each dc, skip first dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Picking up the front loop of each dc, skip first dc, dc in next 2 dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn.

To Shape Back: 1st row: Picking up back loop of each dc, skip first dc, dc in next 11 dc. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Picking up front loop of each dc, skip first dc, dc in next 10 dc. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Picking up back loop of each dc, skip first dc, dc in next 9 dc. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Picking up front loop of each dc, skip first dc, dc in next 5 dc. Break off.

Attach thread to other side of last complete row and work as for other side.

FRONT OF BODICE ... 1st row: Leaving 5 dc free on last complete row of Bodice, attach thread to next dc, ch 3 and, working in back loop only, dc in each dc to within last 5 dc. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Picking up front loop, skip first dc, dc in each dc across, decreasing 1 dc at end of row—to dec 1 dc, work off 2 dc as 1 dc. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Picking up back loop, skip first dc, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make dc in next 3 dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), dc in each dc across to within the last 4 dc, make another cluster over last 4 dc. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Picking up front loop, dc in next 4 dc, half dc in next dc, sc in next 4 dc, half dc in next dc, dc in last 5 sts. Break off. Sew shoulder seams together.

FIRST FRILL ... 1st row: Attach thread to 5th dc at front of neck, ch 3, sc in next half dc, (ch 3, sc in next sc) 3 times; ch 3, sc in next half dc, ch 3, sc in next dc. Ch 3, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Sc in first loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 3rd row.

SECOND FRILL ... 1st row: Attach thread to first free loop on 3rd row of upper part of Bodice, picking up each free loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across entire row. Ch 3, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Work as for First Frill. Break off.

THIRD FRILL ... 1st row: Attach thread to first free loop on 4th row of Bodice. Complete as for other frills. Break off.

JACKET ... Use one strand each of Dk. Lavender and Beauty Rose throughout and No. 6 hook. Starting at back, ch 26. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd to 7th rows incl: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn.

LEFT FRONT ... 1st row: Skip first dc, dc in next 3 dc, make 2 dc in next dc. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in first dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc, ending with 2 dc in last dc. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until 7 rows have been completed. Break off.

RIGHT FRONT ... Attach thread to right side at armhole edge, ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, make 2 dc in next dc. Ch 3, turn. Complete as for Left Front. Break off. Sew underarm seams for ¼ inch.

SLEEVE ... Attach thread at underarm and sc closely around. Join with a sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3, dc in each sc to within 1 sc at center of shoulder, (cluster over next 2 sc) 3 times; dc in each sc around. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, dc in next dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th and 5th rnds: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. Break off at end of 5th rnd. Make other sleeve the same way.

HAT ... 1st rnd: Starting at center, ch 4, 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th rnd: Ch 3, dc in next dc, * 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 5th and 6th rnds: Ch 3, picking up back loop of each dc, make dc in each dc around. Join and break off at end of 6th rnd.

Sew flowers to hat. Tie ribbon around waist.
