MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN," Art. A.64
: 1 ball each of White, No. 131 Fudge Brown and No. 10-A Canary Yellow.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
2 small snap fasteners. ... 1 card each of red and green rick-rack, size 13. ... A doll 7 ½ inches tall; waist 4 ¾ inches.

DRESS—Skirt ... Starting at top with Canary Yellow, make a chain to reach loosely around doll's waist. 1st row: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, 3 dc in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, increasing 6 dc evenly across—to inc 1 dc, make 2 dc in 1 dc—dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Sl st in top of ch 3 at beginning of row. Now work in rnds: 1st rnd: Ch 3, inc 6 dc evenly around. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. Repeat last 2 rnds alternately until Skirt measures 4 ½ inches. Break off.

BODICE ... Attach Fudge Brown to opposite side of chain on Skirt, ch 3, dc in each ch around. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Skip first dc, dc in next 7 dc for Back. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc, dc in top of turning chain. Turn.

To Shape Shoulder: Sl st in first 4 dc, ch 3, dc in next dc and in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Next row: Skip first dc, dc in next dc and in top of turning chain. Break off. Attach thread to opposite end of last complete row and work other side of Back the same way.

FRONT ... 1st row: Leaving 5 dc free for underarm on last complete row, attach thread to next dc, ch 3, dc in each dc across to within last 5 dc. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn.

To Shape Shoulder: Next row: Skip first dc, dc in next 2 dc. Ch 3, turn. Following row: Skip first dc, dc in next dc and in top of turning chain. Break off. Attach thread to 3rd dc from other end of last complete row and complete other shoulder to correspond. Sew up shoulder seams.

SLEEVE ... 1st rnd: Attach White to center st at underarm, sc closely around armhole opening. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each sc around. Join. 3rd and 4th rnds: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. 5th rnd: Ch 3, * work off next 2 dc as 1 dc. Repeat from * around. Join. 6th and 7th rnds: * Work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Repeat from * around. Join. Break off at end of 7th rnd. Complete other Sleeve the same way.

Sew strips of red, green and red rick-rack around bottom of Skirt. Sew rick-rack around Sleeves, starting at bottom, having 2 rows of red, 1 green and 1 red. Sew a strip of green rick-rack around neck of dress.

APRON ... Starting at long side of tie with White, make a chain 20 inches long, dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off. Mark off 2 3 sts at center of row. Attach thread to first st. 1st row: Ch 3, dc in each st across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd to 8th rows incl: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 8th row. Sew strips of red and green rick-rack to bottom of Apron, then sew a piece of red rick-rack around 3 sides.

HAT ... Starting at back with Yel¬low, ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, 2 dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd, 4th and 5th rnds: Ch 3, inc 12 dc evenly around. 6th rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. 7th rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, sc in next 8 dc, (work off 2 sc as 1 sc, sc in next sc) 14 times (front); sc in each remaining dc around. Join and break off.

BRIM ... Mark off center sc at front, then mark off 14 sc on each side of center sc. 1st row: Attach thread to first sc, ch 3, dc in each sc to within center sc, 3 dc in center sc, dc in each remaining sc. Ch 3, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, making 3 dc in center dc of 3-dc group. Ch 3, turn. Break off at end of 3rd row.

Sew a strip of red rick-rack across first row of Brim.
