CLARK'S O.N.T. BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, Art. B.4, Size 30: 1 ball each of White and No. 26-B Bright Nile Green.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 7 and No. 10.
2 pipe cleaners. ... A white feather. ... 2 snap fasteners. ... A doll 11 inches tall; waist 5 ½ inches.

DRESS—Skirt ... Starting at top with Hunter's Green and No. 7 hook, ch 45. 1st row: 2 tr in 4th ch from hook, 3 tr in each of next 11 ch, tr in next 18 ch, 3 tr in each of next 12 ch. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Tr in first tr, 2 tr in next 35 tr, tr in next 18 tr, 2 tr in each remaining tr, 2 tr in top of turning chain. Ch 4, turn. 3rd to 9th rows incl: Skip first tr, tr in each tr across, tr in top of turning chain. Ch 4, turn. 10th row: Skip first tr, tr in next tr, (holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make tr in next 2 tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook—1 tr decreased) 35 times; tr in next 18 tr, dec 36 tr, ending with last tr in top of turning chain. Ch 4, turn. 11th to 14th rows incl: Skip first tr, tr in each tr across, tr in top of turning chain. Ch 4, turn. 15th row: Skip first tr, tr in next 24 tr, dc in next 10 tr, sc in next 20 tr, dc in next 10 tr, tr in each remaining tr. Ch 4, turn. 16th row: Skip first tr, tr in each tr, dc in each dc and sc in each sc across. Break off.

RUFFLE ... 1st row: Using No. 10 hook, attach Bright Nile Green to first tr, ch 4, 2 tr in same tr, 3 tr in each st across, 3 tr in top of turning chain. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Skip first tr, tr in each tr across, tr in top of turning chain. Break off. Sew back seam.

BODICE ... Starting at sleeve edge with Hunter's Green and No. 7 hook, ch 18. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across, increasing 3 dc evenly across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, increasing 3 dc evenly across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd to 7th rows incl: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across and in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. At end of 7th row, ch 8 to turn. Attach a separate piece of thread to opposite end of row, ch 6. Break off. 8th row: Pick up main thread, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across, dc in each dc, dc in top of turning chain and in each remaining ch across. Ch 3, turn. 9th, 10th and 11th rows: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 12th row: Skip first dc, dc in next 15 dc for back. Ch 3, turn. 13th row: Skip first dc, dc in each dc across, dc in top of turning chain. Break off.

Sew up underarm and sleeve seams. Make another piece the same way. Starting at waist, sew up front, joining first 10 dc. Sew Bodice to Skirt. Sew snap fasteners to back.

CUFF ... 1st rnd: Attach Bright Nile Green to side of sleeve, ch 3, dc in each ch around. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, do not join. Ch 3, turn. 4th rnd: Skip first dc, dc in each dc around, dc in top of turning chain. Break off.

Complete other sleeve the same way. Sew a button to each cuff.

With Bright Nile Green make a chain long enough to reach from back of neck around front to waist, half dc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off. Make another piece the same way. Sew to Bodice.

LACE ... Starting at long side with Size 30 White and No. 10 hook, make a chain long enough to reach from waist, around back of skirt to bottom and to other side of waist. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 5, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows of Ruffle on Susanna Doll. Break off and sew around Skirt and Bodice.

SHAMROCK (Make 2) ... Starting at center with Bright Nile Green and No. 10 hook, ch 10. Join with sl st to form ring.

FIRST LEAF ... 1st row: Ch 4, tr in ring. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 2 dc in first tr, 3 dc in next ch. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 sc in first dc, sc in each dc across, 2 sc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn (8 sc). 4th row: Skip first sc, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, make dc in next 3 sc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), ch 3, sl st between last sc worked and next sc, ch 3, make a cluster over next 3 sc, ch 3, sl st in next sc. Break off.

SECOND LEAF ... Attach thread to ring, ch 4 and complete Leaf as before. Make another leaf the same way. Sew to Skirt.

HAT ... Starting at center with Hunter's Green and No. 7 hook, ch 4. 1st rnd: 11 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join. 2nd rnd: 2 dc in each dc around. Join. 3rd and 4th rnds: Inc 12 dc evenly around. 5th rnd: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join and break off.

BRIM ... Starting at center, ch 48. Join, being careful not to twist. 1st rnd: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next ch, dc in next ch. Repeat from * around. Join. 2nd to 5th rnds incl: Inc 12 dc evenly around. Join. Break off at end of 5th rnd. Sew Brim to crown of Hat. Sew feather to hat. Make a small rosette of green ribbon and sew to side of hat.

UMBRELLA ... Starting at bottom with Hunter's Green, ch 8. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 4, tr in same place as sl st, 2 tr in each ch around. Join. 2nd to 7th rnds incl: Inc 16 tr evenly around. Join. Break off at end of 7th rnd. Attach thread to opposite side of starting chain, ch 4, tr in same ch, 2 tr in each ch around. Join and break off.

Make a piece of white lace as before to reach around top of parasol. Make another piece of lace to reach around bottom. Sew in place. Insert pipe cleaner through bottom and lack in place, leav-ing 1 inch free. Tack top at intervals and sew to handle.

BOW ... 1st row: Starting at center with Hunter's Green, ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in first dc, 2 dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Dc in first dc, dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Dc in first dc, dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in top of turning chain. Break off.

Attach thread to opposite side of starting chain, ch 3, dc in next ch. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows. Sew to handle of Umbrella.
