MATERIALS—D•M•C Pearl Cotton, Art. 116D, Size 8: 3 balls Purple Ombre No. 52 or No. 95 (A), 1 ball Gold Ombre No. 108 or No. 51 (B) and D•M•C Six Strand Cotton, Art. 117C: 1 skein White.
7½-inch Doll.
4-inch ribbon; ½ yard Petticoat.
Tiny Pearls, gold sequins, brilliants etc.
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 7.

BODICE—With A ch 27, dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in each of next 22 chs. Row 2—Ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd dc, dc in each of 12 dc (leaving remainder of sts free for Shoulder Strap). Rows 3 to 14—Ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd dc, dc in each of 11 dc, dc in ch-3. Row 15—Ch 13 (for Shoulder Strap), turn, dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in each of 8 chs, dc in each of 13 dc, dc in ch-3, fasten off. Skip 4 rows for underarm, sew end of Shoulder Strap to edge of next row (to form armhole); sew other Shoulder Strap to correspond. SleeveRnd 1—With A work [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1] in each of 4 rows at underarm, [1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc, ch 1] in each of 10 sts of Shoulder Strap, join (with slip st) in first dc (28 sps). Rnds 2, 3—Slip st in next sp, ch 4, [1 dc, ch 1] in each remaining sp, join in 3rd ch of ch-4. Rnd 4—Ch 3, skip joined st, dc in each remaining dc, join (in top of ch-3). Rnd 5—Ch 3, skip joined st and next dc, * dc in next dc, skip next dc; rpt from STAR around, join. Rnd 6—Ch 3, skip joined st, dc in each remaining dc, join. Rpt rnd 6 three times. Fasten off. Ruffle—Draw out one strand of White Six Strand Cotton, using this strand work 2 sc in each st of last rnd of Sleeve, join (in first sc). Rnd 2—Ch 1, sc in joined st, ch 5, [1 sc, ch 5] in each remaining sc, join (28 Loops). Rnds 3, 4, 5—Slip st to center of next Loop, sc in Loop, ch 6 [1 sc, ch 6] in each remaining Loop, join. Fasten off. Work other Sleeve to correspond.

SKIRT—Working along lower edge of Bodice, with A work 3 dc in each row of Bodice (45 dc). Row 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, * Shell of 3 dc in next dc, sc in next dc; rpt from STAR across (22 Shells). Row 3—Ch 3, turn, dc in first sc, sc in center dc of next Shell, * Shell of 3 dc in next sc between Shells, sc in center dc of next Shell; rpt from STAR to last sc, 2 dc in last sc. Row 4—Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, * Shell of 3 dc in next sc, sc in center dc of next Shell; rpt from STAR across working last sc in top of ch-3. Rpt rows 3 and 4. Row 7—Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in first sc, * sc in center dc of next Shell, Shell of 5 dc in next sc; rpt from STAR across ending last Shell with 3 dc. Row 8—Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, * Shell of 5 dc in next sc, sc in center dc of next Shell; rpt from STAR across working last sc in ch-3. Rpt rows 7 and 8 alternately twice. Row 13—Ch 4, turn, 3 tr in first sc, * sc in center st of next Shell, Shell of 7 tr in next sc; rpt from STAR across ending last Shell with 4 tr. Row 14—Ch 1, turn, sc in first tr, * Shell of 7 tr in next sc, sc in center st of next Shell; rpt from STAR across working last sc in ch-4. Rpt rows 13 and 14 alternately until 23 rows. Row 24—Ch 1, turn, sc in first tr, * Shell of 9 tr in next sc, sc in center st of next Shell; rpt from STAR across working last sc in ch-4. Row 25—Ch 4, turn, 4 tr in first sc, * sc in center st of next Shell, Shell of 9 tr in next sc; rpt from STAR across ending last Shell with 5 tr. Rpt rows 24, 25. Edging—Ch 5, working along side of Skirt, sc around post of next tr, * ch 5, sc around post of next tr; rpt from STAR to waistline, work same Edging along front Bodice and neck edge; work other side to correspond, fasten off.

FRONT PANEL—With B ch 12, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of 8 chs. Row 2—Ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd dc, dc in each of 7 dc, dc in ch-3. Rows 3, 4—Ch 3, turn, yo, draw up a loop in 2nd dc, yo, thru 2 loops, yo, draw up a loop in next dc, yo, thru 2 loops, yo, thru 3 loops on hook (dec. made), dc in each dc to last dc, yo, draw up a loop in last dc, yo, thru 2 loops, yo, draw up a loop in top of ch-3, yo, thru 2 loops, yo, thru 3 loops on hook (dec. made). Rows 5, 6—Ch 3, turn, dc in 2nd dc, dc in each of 3 dc, dc in ch-3. Row 7—Ch 5, turn, sc in first dc, [ch 5, 1 sc] in each of 4 dc, ch 5, sc in ch-3 (6 Loops). Row 8—Ch 5, turn, sc in first Loop, [ch 5, 1 sc] in each of 5 Loops. Rpt row 8 five times. Rpt row 8 twelve times only ch 6. Rpt row 8 seven times only ch 7. Row 33—Turn, * ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 2, sc in next Loop; rpt from STAR across, fasten off. Put dress on Doll, sew Front Panel in place as shown. Run a matching drawstring thru waistline. Tighten drawstring, tie knot.

COLLAR—With B ch 30, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each remaining ch (29 sc). Row 2—Ch 1, turn, sc in first sc, * ch 5, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc; rpt from STAR across (14 Loops). Rows 3, 4, 5—Ch 1, turn, slip st to center of first Loop, sc in Loop, [ch 5, 1 sc] in each remaining Loop. Rows 6, 7, 8—Work as for row 3 only ch 6. Work as for row 3 only ch 7 until one Loop in row. Fasten off. Edging—With A work [2 sc, ch 4, slip st in 4th ch from hook, 2 sc] in each sp around Collar, fasten off. Starch Collar and sew in place.

PETTICOAT—Sew ends of 4-inch ribbon together, run a shirring drawstring ¼-inch from one edge, put on Doll, tighten drawstring to fit waist, tie a knot.

HAT—With B ch 5, work 6 tr in 5th ch from hook. Row 2—Ch 4, turn, tr in first tr, 2 tr in each of 5 tr, 2 tr in ch-4. Rows 3, 4—Ch 4, turn, tr in 2nd tr, tr in each of 11 tr, tr in ch-4. BrimRnd 1—Ch 1, work a row of sc around hat (3 sc for each row, 3 sc in each corner and 1 sc in each st), join (in first sc). Rnd 2—Ch 1, turn, work 1 sc in front loop of each sc around, join (leaving back loops free), fasten off. Rnd 3—Working in free loops of rnd 1, with B 1 tr in any loop, * ch 3, slip st in tr just made, ch 1, skip 1 loop, 1 tr in next loop; rpt from STAR around, join, fasten off. Starch hat. Decorate hat and dress with sequins, Pearls, brilliants, etc, as desired.
