B--Floral Pattern Afghan--Size 46" x 68"

Materials Required:

Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein)

For Multicolor Afghans--1 Skein each of 4 shades in 6 color ranges

For Monotone Afghans--1 Skein each of Darkest Color and Medium Dark Color in one color range AND 2 Skeins each of Lightest Color and Medium Light Color in same color range.

10 Skeins of Background Color for B Afghan.

1 "Boye" Aluminum Crochet Hook "I" (Size 8)

Gauge: Completed Motif should measure: B--Floral Square--5 1/2 inches across

Color 2--Medium Dark Color
Color 3--Medium Light Color
Color 4--Light Color

Floral Pattern Afghan

Motif: With Color 1 (Darkest Color) Ch 4, join in ring with a slip St, Ch 2, work 7 H.D.C. in ring, join with a slip St to 2nd Ch at start (8 Sts.). Break yarn and fasten.

First Petal: With Color 2 fasten yarn in a H.D.C. St, Ch 3, 3 D.C. in same St, Ch 3, turn. Draw up a loop in same St as Ch 3, draw up a loop in next St, Y.O. and finish as a D.C., draw up a loop in next 2 Sts. and finish as a D.C., Ch 1, turn. Draw up a loop in same St. as Ch 1 and in each of next 2 Sts., Y.O. and through the 4 loops, Ch1, slip St. along side of first Petal.

With Color 2 make 1 more Petal in next St. in same manner.

Break yarn and fasten.

With Color 3 make 1 Petal in each of next 3 Sts.

With Color 4 make 1 Petal in each of last 3 Sts.

Background: Row 1-- with Background Color fasten yarn in back of St. at 2nd row of First Petal, *Ch 4, slip St to back of 2nd row of next Petal, repeat from * around, ending Ch 4, slip St to First Petal.

Row 2--Ch 3, 2 D.C. in next Ch 4 space, Ch 3, 3 D.C. in same space (first corner), * Ch 1, 3 D.C. in next Ch 4 space, Ch 1, (3 D.C., Ch 3, 3 D.C.) in next Ch 4 space, repeat from * 2 times more, ending Ch 1, 3 D.C. in next Ch 4 space, Ch 1, slip St to 3rd Ch at start. Slip St to corner.

Row 3--Ch 3, 2 D.C. in same space (first corner), Ch 3, 3 D.C. in same space, *Ch 1, 3 D.C. in next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, 3 D.C. in next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, (3 D.C., Ch 3, 3 D.C.) in next corner, repeat from * 2 times more, Ch 1, 3 D.C. in next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, 3 D.C. in next Ch 1 space, Ch 1, slip St to 3rd Ch at start. Slip St to corner.

Row 4--Same as Row 3. Break yarn and fasten.

Make 96 Motifs.

To Join Motifs: Place 2 Motifs right sides together. Draw Background Color yarn through corner spaces of the 2 Motifs and fasten securely. *Ch 3, 1 S.C. through next space (joining the 2 Motifs), repeat from * across to next corner. Do not break yarn. Place 2 more Motifs together in same manner and continue joining across, having 2 rows of 8 Motifs for width of Afghan. Join 3rd row to 2nd, 4th to 3rd, etc., until there are 12 rows in length. Join vertically in same manner, working a Ch 1 over previous joinings.

Fringe: With Background Color wind yarn over an 8 inch cardboard. Cut loops at one end. Fold and knot 4 strands in each Ch 1 space at each end of Afghan. *Divide strands and knot 4 strands from next group, repeat from * across.
