MATERIALS:
CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS BEST SIX CORD MERCERIZED CROCHET, size 30, 1 ball.
Steel crochet hook No. 9 or 10.

Doily measures 10½ inches in diameter.

   Starting at center, ch 10. Join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 4, 23 tr in ring. Sl st in 4th st of ch-4. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, tr in same place as sl st, * tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr, ch 3, 2 tr in next tr. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, sl st in 4th st of ch-4. 3rd rnd: Ch 4, tr in next tr, * 5 tr in next tr, tr in next 2 tr, ch 3, tr in next 2 tr. Repeat from * around, ending rnd as before. Join. 4th rnd: Ch 4, tr in next 3 tr, * ch 3, tr in next tr, ch 3, tr in next 4 tr, skip next ch-3, tr in next 4 tr. Repeat from * around. Join last tr with sl st to 4th st of ch-4. 5th rnd: Ch 4, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make tr in next 3 tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (this forms half of cluster), * ch 3, tr in same place as last tr, in next tr make (tr, ch 3) twice, and tr (this marks the beginning of a point); tr in next tr, ch 3, holding back on hook last loop of each tr make tr in same place as last tr, and in next 7 tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made). Repeat from * around, ending with tr in next 4 tr holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, sl st in tip of half cluster first made, thus completing cluster. 6th rnd: Ch 7, tr in same place as sl st, * skip next ch-3 and tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr; in next tr make (tr, ch 3) twice, and tr; skip next ch-3 and tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr; in tip of next cluster make tr, ch 3 and tr. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 4th st of ch-7.
   7th rnd: Ch 4 (to count as tr), * skip next tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr. Repeat from * to within center tr of 3 tr (with ch-3 between), in this tr make 3 tr with ch-3 between. ** Skip next tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr. Repeat from ** across to within next center tr of 3 tr (with ch-3 between), in this tr make 3 tr with ch-3 between and continue thus around. Join. 8th rnd: Ch 7 (to count as tr and ch-3), tr in same place as sl st, skip next tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr and continue around as for previous rnd, making 3 tr with ch-3 between in each center tr of 3 tr below. 9th and 10th rnds: Repeat the 7th and 8th rnds. 11th rnd: Work as for 7th rnd to within 2 tr preceding center tr of 3-tr group, skip 2 tr, 3 tr in next sp, ch 3, 3 tr in same sp, tr in next tr, 3 tr in next sp, ch 3, 3 tr in same sp, skip 2 tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr and continue thus around. Join. 12th rnd: Work as for 8th rnd to within ch-3 sp preceding tr-group, ** 2 tr in first tr of group, tr in next 2 tr, ch 3, tr in next 7 tr, ch 3, tr in next 2 tr, 2 tr in next tr, skip 2 tr, * in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr; skip next tr. Repeat from * to within sp preceding next tr-group. Repeat from ** around. Join. 13th rnd: Work as for 7th rnd to within 1 ch-3 sp preceding tr-group, ** tr in 1st tr of 4-tr group, ch 3, tr in same place as last tr, tr in next 3 tr, skip the ch-3, tr in next 3 tr, in next tr make (tr, ch 3) twice, and tr; tr in next 3 tr, skip the ch-3, tr in next 4 tr, ch 3, tr in same place as last tr, skip 2 tr, * in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr; skip next tr. Repeat from * to within 1 ch-3 sp preceding next tr-group. Repeat from ** around. Join.
   14th rnd: Work as for 8th rnd to within 1 sp preceding tr-group, ** tr in 1st tr, ch 3. Now, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, make tr in same place as last tr, and in next 7 tr thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), ch 5, in next tr make 7 tr with ch-1 between, ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, tr in next 8 tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (another cluster made), ch 3, tr in same place as last tr of cluster, * skip 1 tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr. Repeat from * to within sp preceding next tr-group. Now repeat from ** around. Join. 15th rnd: Work as for 7th rnd to within tip preceding point of next cluster, ** in tip of cluster make tr, ch 3 and tr. * Holding back on hook the last loop of each tr make 3 tr in next ch-1 sp, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a 3-tr cluster made), ch 10. Repeat from * 4 more times, make a 3-tr cluster in next ch-1 sp, in tip of next cluster make tr, ch 3 and tr. Skip 1 tr, in next tr make tr, ch 3 and tr and work thus across to within sp preceding tip of next cluster. Repeat from ** around. Join. Fasten off.
