This jacket can be made with:
“GEM” HAT and BAG YARN, Article 144.
12 (13, 14) skeins Pink or any color desired.
or
“DAWN” BULKY YARN 12 (13, 14) skeins Shell Pink.
Wooden crochet hook No. 13 and aluminum crochet hook size G.
4-1 ¼ inch pearl buttons.
Directions are given for size 12. Sizes 14 and 16 are given in brackets.
GAUGE: With No. 13 hook 3 ½ sts = 1 inch-6 ridges = 2 inches. With size G hook 5 sts = 1 inch.
1st Row. With No. 13 hook ch 27 (29, 31), sl st in 2nd st from hook, 1 sl st in each remaining st of ch, 27 (29, 31) sts (turning ch is always counted as 1 st), ch 1 to turn all rows.
2nd Row. 1 sl st in each sl st and in ch 1 at end of row (an increase). Repeat last row always increasing 1 st in each row until there are 83 (85, 87) sts counting the turning ch as a stitch, cut yarn, turn. With G hook ch 10, with No. 13 hook ch 14 (15, 16), then work across the 83 (85, 87) sts, ch 14 (15, 16), change to size G hook and ch 11.
Next Row. Sl st in 2nd st from hook, sl st in each of the next 9 sts (10 sts for ribbing), change to No. 13 hook and sl st in each of the next 111 (115, 119) sts, change to size G hook and sl st in each of the next 10 sts (ribbing). All ribbing is worked with size G hook and will not be referred to again. Continue working even (to work even do not work in turning ch) until waist band measures 5 (5 ¼, 5 ½) inches on each side finishing what will be the back edge.
Next Row. Work next 61 (63, 66) sts including waistband, ch 1, turn and work back to lower edge.
*Next Row. Work to within 2 sts of last row, turn, do not ch 1, then work back to lower edge. Repeat from * once. Work even until waist band measures 7 ½ (7 ⅜, 8) inches ending at back edge.
Next Row. Sl st in each st, ch 3, turn.
Next Row. Sl st in 2nd st from hook, sl st in next st of ch, sl st in each remaining sl st. Repeat the last 2 rows once.
Next Row. Sl st in each st, ch 71 (73, 74), working last 11 sts of ch with size G hook, turn.
Next Row. Sl st in 2nd st from hook, sl st in each remaining st of ch, sl st in each sl st.
Next Row. Sl st in each st. Continue to work even until this side corresponds to opposite side, cut yarn, turn.
Next Row. Skip 23 (24, 25) sl sts, attach yarn in next st, then work 1 sl st in each of the next 83 (85, 87) sts, leaving next 24 (25, 26) sts for underarm seam, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row (to decrease: skip 1 st and do not work in turning ch). Repeat last row until there are 27 (29, 31) sts, cut yarn. Sew side and sleeve seams.
NECK AND FRONT BAND: With right side of work toward you attach yarn at lower edge of front, and work 1 sl st in each st to short row at back of neck, * 1 sl st in short row, 1 sl st in decreased row, repeat from * once, sl st in each ridge across back of neck, * sl st in next decrease row, sl st in next row, repeat from * once, sl st in each st on opposite side (there will be a variation in appearance of pattern where band and fronts are joined but this cannot be avoided). Work even until front ribbing measures 6 (6 ½, 7) inches ending at right front edge.
Next Row. 1 sl st in each of the 1st 2 sts, ch 5, skip 5 sts, sl st in next st, * work in sl st for 2 ¼ inches, ch 3, skip 3 sts, sl st in next st, repeat from * twice, then sl st in each remaining st. Work even in sl sts until ribbing measures 7 (7 ½, 8) inches, cut yarn.
Sew buttons in position.
