Evening Bag Pattern

Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "GEM" CROCHET COTTON, Article 35, size 30 or
"STAR" CROCHET COTTON, Article 20, size 30
2 balls White
Steel crochet hooks No. 10 and No. 12.
Each motif measures 1¼ inches. 30 motifs are needed for bag.
About 500 sequins.
Satin—8 x 10 inches for lining
6 inch zipper.

Motif:—With No. 12 hook and single strand of thread, ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 8 s c in ring, join in 1st s c.
2nd Row:—Ch 6, d c in next s c, * ch 3, d c in next s c, repeat from * 5 times, ch 3, join in 3rd st of ch.
3rd Row:—Ch 1, s c in same space, * ch 1 8, s c in same space (corner), 2 s c in next loop, s c in next d c, ch 3, sl st in top of last s c for picot, ch 4, sl st in same space, ch 3, sl st in same space (3 picot cluster), 2 s c in next loop, s c in next d c, repeat from * twice, ch 18, s c in same space, 2 s c in next loop, s c in next d c, 3 picot cluster in last s c made, 2 s c in next loop, join in 1st s c.
4th Row:—Sl st in each of the 1st 4 sts of ch, s c in next st of ch, ** 5 s c over same corner loop, ch 3, sl st in top of last s c for picot, * 3 s c over same loop, ch 3, sl st in top of last s c for picot, repeat from * once, 4 s c over same loop, s c in 5th st from end of same ch 18, ch 6, 2 d c in 4th st from hook keeping last loop of each d c on hook, thread over and work off all loops at one time (a rice st), ch 2, s c in 5th st of next ch 18 at next corner, repeat from ** 3 times, but ending with sl st in 1st s c, cut thread. Work a 2nd motif joining it to 1st motif in last row as follows:—sl st in each of the next 4 sts of ch 18 at corner, s c in next st of ch, 5 s c over same loop, picot, 3 s c over same loop, picot, 3 s c over same loop, ch 1, join to cor­responding picot on side of 1st motif, ch 1, sl st in same s c of 2nd motif, 4 s c over same loop of 2nd motif, s c in 5th st from end of same ch 18, ch 6, rice st in 4th st from hook, ch 2, s c in 5th st of next ch 18, 5 s c over same loop of 2nd motif, ch 1, join to corresponding picot on same side of 1st motif, ch 1, sl st in same space of 2nd motif, 3 s c over same loop, picot, 3 s c over same loop, picot, 4 s c over same loop, s c in 5th st from end of same ch 18, finish motif same as 1st motif. Join all motifs in same manner having 6 rows of motifs with 5 motifs in each row. Fold work in half having the right side on outside, there will be 3 x 5 motifs for front of bag and 3 x 5 motifs for back of bag.
Working from both balls of thread (double strand), string about 500 sequins and keep sequins pushed back on thread, do not work with sequins.
With No. 10 hook, attach double thread in corner picot inserting hook through both sections to close bag, ch 7 and working down short side, * s c in last s c of corner loop, always work through both sections, ch 7, s c in 1st s c of next corner loop of same motif, ch 7, skip 1 picot of same corner loop, s c in next picot, ch 7, s c in next free picot of next motif, ch 7, repeat from * once, s c in last s c of same corner loop, ch 7, s c in 1st s c of next corner loop of same motif, ch 7, skip 1 picot, s c in next picot (lower corner of bag), working across bottom of bag and through both sections, * ch 7, s c in last s c of same corner loop, ch 7, s c in 1st s c of next corner loop of same motif, ch 7, skip 1 picot of same motif, s c in next picot, ch 7, s c in 1st free picot of next motif, repeat from * across bottom, then work up other short side same as opposite short side, ch 7, turn.
Next Row: S c in 1st loop, ch 7, s c in same loop, ch 7, s c in same loop, * ch 7, s c in next loop, ch 7, s c in same loop, ch 7, s c in same loop, repeat from * down side, across lower edge and up opposite side, ch 7, turn.
Next Row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 7, s c in next loop, repeat from * around the 3 sides, turn.
Next Row: * Ch 7, push 1 sequin next to last st of ch made, ch 1, s c in next loop, repeat from * across 3 sides, turn.
Next Row: ** Ch 2, * place a sequin next to the ch and hold sequin in position with finger and thumb of left hand, ch 2, repeat from * twice, s c in next loop, repeat from ** around 3 sides, cut thread.

HANDLE: With No. 12 hook and single strand of thread work 1st 2 rows same as 1st 2 rows of motif.
3rd Row: Ch 1, * 3 s c in each of the next 2 loops, s c in next d c, work a 3 picot cluster same as on motif, repeat from * 3 times, join, cut thread. Work a 2nd motif in same manner joining it to 1st motif at center picot of 3 picot cluster of one corner. Join 3rd motif to 2nd motif in same manner leaving 1 point free at top and lower edge between joinings. Work 7 more motifs joining in same manner.

EDGE: Attach thread in center picot of 3 picot cluster at end, ch 7, d c in 4th st from hook, skip 3 s c, d c in space over the d c of previous row, * ch 4, d c in 4th st from hook (rice st), d c in center picot of next picot cluster, rice st, d c in same picot, ch 3, sl st in top of last d c made for picot, rice st, d c in same picot cluster, rice st, skip 3 s c, d c in next space over the d c of previous row of same motif, rice st, skip joining of motifs, d c in space over next d c of next motif, repeat from * 8 times, * rice st, d c in center picot of next picot cluster, rice st, d c in same picot cluster, ch 3, sl st in top of last d c for picot, rice st, d c in same picot cluster, rice st, d c in space over next d c of same motif, repeat from * twice, rice st, skip joining of motifs, d c in space over next d c of next motif, finish side to correspond, join in 3rd st of ch, cut thread.
Sew lining to fit bag and sew zipper in position. Insert in bag and sew. Sew handle to zipper as illustrated.
