MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY POM­PADOUR, 6 balls (¾ oz. balls).
Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).
7 buttons.

J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY FLOSS, 1 skein of each of 2 colors for embroidery.

GAUGE: 1 shell makes 1 inch; 6 rows make 2 inches.

BACK … Starting at bottom, ch 62 to measure 10½ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (61 sc). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 1st sc, * skip 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc (shell made). Repeat from * across, ending with sc (10-shells). Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 2 dc at base of ch-3 (half shell made at beginning of row), * sc in center dc of next shell, 5 dc in next sc. Repeat from * across, ending with 3 dc in last sc (half shell made at end of row). Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in 1st dc, * 5 dc in next sc, sc in center dc of next shell. Repeat from * across, ending with sc at top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. Repeat the 3rd and 4th rows alternately for 8½ inches, ending with row which has a complete shell at each end. Do not chain to turn.

To Shape Armholes: Sl st in next 3 sts, shell in next sc and continue in pattern across, ending with a complete shell (9 shells). Repeat the last row once more (8 shells). Ch 3, turn. Continue to work straight in pattern (half shell at each end of next row) until piece measures 12½ inches in all. Fasten off.

FRONT (Make 2) … Ch 32 to measure 5½ inches. Work in pattern as on Back (5 shells) until piece measures 8½ inches, ending with row which has a complete shell at each end. Do not chain to turn.

To Shape Armholes: 1st row: Sl st in next 3 sts, shell in next sc and continue in pattern across, to end of row. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Work in pattern across, ending with complete shell (4 shells). Work straight in pattern (half shell at each end of next row) until piece measures 10 inches in all, ending with a com­plete shell. Ch 3, turn. Next row: To shape neck, work in pattern across, end­ing with a complete shell. Following row: Sl st in next 3 sts, shell in next sc, continue in pattern to end of row. Repeat the last 2 rows once more. Work straight in pattern on the remaining 2 shells until piece measures 12½ inches in all. Fasten off.

SLEEVES … Ch 44 to measure 7½ inches. Work in pattern as on Back (7 shells) until piece measures 8½ inches, ending with row which has a complete shell at each end. Do not chain to turn. To shape top, work as for armhole shap­ing of Back until only 3 shells remain. Fasten off.

CUFF1st row: With right side facing, work a row of sc along bottom of Sleeve, holding work in to measure 5 inches. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sl st loosely in front loop only of each st across. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: Work in front loop only of each sl st as follows: * Insert hook in next st and draw loop through, (yarn over and draw through 1 loop) 3 times; yarn over and draw through re­maining 2 loops. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sl st in front loop only of each st across. Fasten off.
   Sew side and shoulder seams. Work band around bottom of sweater same as cuff, keeping work flat. Work band around front and neck edges in same way. Fasten off. Sew sleeve seams and set in sleeves. Using 3 single strands of Six Strand Embroidery Floss, embroider flowers around neck as in illustration, using one color for forget-me-knots and other color for French knots. Sew on buttons.
