MATERIALS:
J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 2 balls of Black.
J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball of Green.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 6.
Wind Knit-Cro-Sheen into 4 equal balls.

Use 4 threads throughout.

   Ch 10. 1st rnd: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, then work along opposite side of starting chain, making sc in each ch across (18 sc). 2nd rnd: * Sc in each sc to end sc, 3 sc in end sc (this is front of Hat). Repeat from * once more (end of rnd is back of Hat). 3rd rnd: * Sc in each sc to 3 sc-group, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc (3 sc increased). Repeat from * once more. 4th rnd: * Sc in each sc to 1st increase, 2 sc in next 6 sc. Repeat from * once more. 5th to 11th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 12th rnd: * Sc in each sc to end, 2 sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * once more. 13th to 19th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. 20th rnd: Determine the center of left side of Hat and mark with a colored thread. Sc in each sc around to marker, 3 sc in place where marker is, sc in each sc around. 21st and 22nd rnds: Sc in each sc to center sc of 3 sc-group, 3 sc in center sc, sc in each sc around. 23rd rnd: Sc in each sc to 5 sc at center back of Hat, 2 sc in next 5 sc (no more increases on back of Hat). 24th, 25th and 26th rnds: Sc in each sc to left side of Hat, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in each sc to end of rnd. 27th to 30th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. After 30th rnd, sl st in next 2 sts. Break off.

RING TRIM (Make 3) … With 4 strands of Green, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 6 sc in ring. 2nd rnd: (3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc) 3 times. 3rd rnd: Sc in next sc, * 3 sc in next sc, sc to center sc of next 3 sc-group. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Sew these 3 Rings to left side of Hat.

TASSEL (Make 3) … Cut a cardboard 4½ x 5 inches. Wind Black 100 times around the 4½-inch width and cut. Insert 4 strands of Black under the loops at top of cardboard and tie into a square knot. Remove from cardboard, cut loops at opposite end and trim ends evenly. Wind Green several times around Tassel ½ inch down from top, tie ends securely and cut.
   Sew a Tassel to center of each Ring Trim.
