Classic Sailor Hat Pattern #PC-1316

MATERIALS:
Chadwick's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 3 balls (1 oz. balls).
Bone Crochet Hook No. 8.
1 yard of ribbon.
31 inches of millinery wire.

Use a double strand throughout.

CROWN … Starting at center, ch 10. 1st rnd: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across (7 dc, counting turning ch as 1 dc). Now work along opposite side of starting chain, making a dc in each ch (14 dc). 2nd rnd: 3 dc in 1st dc, dc in each of next 6 dc. Repeat from * once more. 3rd rnd: * 2 dc in next 3 dc, sc in next 6 dc. Repeat from * once more. 4th rnd: * 2 dc in next 6 dc, dc in next 6 dc. Repeat from * once more. 5th, 6th and 7th rnds: Dc in each dc around. 3th rnd: Sc in each dc around. 9th, 10th and 11th rnds: Sc in each sc around.

BRIM … Sc in next 9 sc (mark this point with a safety pin for beginning of rnds). 1st rnd: 2 dc in each sc around. 2nd rnd: Dc in each dc to last 18 dc, sc in each of last 18 dc. 3rd and 4th rnds: Sc in each st around.
   Overlap wire so that it measures 9½ inches in diameter and tie ends securely.

5th rnd: Holding wire at top of last rnd and working over it in order to conceal it, make sc in each sc around. 6th rnd: Still working over wire, make sc between each sc around. 7th rnd: Sc in each sc around. Sl st in next 2 sts and break off.

HEAD STRAP … With 6 strands of yarn make a chain 22 inches long. Join, but do not break off. Attach head Strap to hat and adjust to fit. Sew in place.
   Run Ribbon through the last rnd of Crown and tie ends into a bow at left side.
