MATERIALS:
Chadwick's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, 3 balls (1 oz. balls) for Hat and 10 balls for Muff.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 8.
2¼ yards of ribbon, 1 inch wide.
1½ yards of veiling.
Paillettes for trim.
Muff foundation.

Use a double strand throughout for entire set.

HAT

CALOT … Starting at center, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 10 sc in ring. 2nd and 3rd rnds: 2 sc in each sc around (40 sc on 3rd rnd). 4th to 10th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. Break off after the 10th rnd.

CROWN … Starting at center, ch 4. Join. 1st rnd: 8 sc in ring. 2nd and 3rd rnds: 2 sc in each sc around. 4th rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (48 sc). 5th to 12th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around.

BRIM … 1st rnd: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (72 sc). 2nd to 9th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. Sl st in next 2 sc. Break off.
   Place Calot on head and then place Hat on top. Pin Calot and Hat together and sew. Trim with Paillettes and veiling. Make a bow with 25 inches of ribbon and sew to center back of Hat.

MUFF

   Make a chain 1 inch longer than width of muff foundation measuring from opening on one side to opening on opposite side. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
   Repeat the 2nd row until piece is long enough to fit around Muff foundation. Break off.
   Turn under and hem ½ inch on each long side. Sew the last row to the first row, leaving the hem at each end open.
   Cut 2 pieces of ribbon each 28 inches long. Run a ribbon through each hem. Pull crocheted piece over muff foundation and sew the edges of hems to foundation. Draw ribbon up tightly and tie into a bow. Trim with paillettes.
