MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 5, 2 balls of Dark Yellow, 1 ball each of Ecru and Dark Brown ... Steel Crochet Hook No. 3.
GAUGE: 6½ sc make 1 inch; 6 rnds make 1 inch.
Use double thread throughout.
Starting at center with Ecru, ch 2. 1st rnd: 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st to first sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, make 2 sc in same place as sl st, 2 sc in each sc around. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th to 8th rnds incl: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, sc in each sc around, making 2 sc in 2nd sc of each 2-sc group. Join. At end of 8th rnd, break off. 9th rnd: Attach Brown and work as for 4th rnd. 10th rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, working over Yellow in order to conceal it, make sc in next 8 sc, insert hook in same place as last sc was made and draw loop through, drop Brown, draw through a Yellow loop, thus changing color. Always change color in this manner. Working with Yellow over unused color, make sc in next 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc. Drop Yellow. Pick up Brown. Work in this manner, alternating colors and making 2 sc at end of each colored section. Join. 11th to 15th rnds incl: Using matching colors, make sc in each sc around, increasing at end of each section as before. Join. Break off Brown at end of 15th rnd. 16th and 17th rnds: Make sc in each sc around, having 2 sc in 2nd sc of each 2-sc group. Join. Break off at end of 17th rnd. Sew on bone ring.
