MATERIALS:  J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 3, 3 balls of Ecru and 1 ball of Steel Blue. Scraps of Red and Black ... Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 ... A bone ring.

Starting at side of broom with Ecru, ch 40 to measure about 4½ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Picking up back loop only, make sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until 53 rows are completed.

TOP ... 1st row: Working alongside, make sc in first st of every other row across (27 sc across row). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Make sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Dec 1 sc, sc in each sc across, dec 1 sc at end of row—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd row until 11 rows are completed (9 sc on 11th row). Break off.

HANDLE ... 1st row: Attach Blue to first sc and make sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row un­til handle measures 5 inches. Break off.

Embroider 7 rows along top of rib­bing, using Blue and Red alternately. Embroider short Black scattered lines between ribs. Make another piece same as this. Sew pieces together, padding bottom. Sew bone ring to handle.
