Block Mat Breakfast Set Pattern #712

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 1 ball each of Ecru and color 26 Nile Green; or J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 3 balls each of Ecru and color 26 Nile Green. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5. This amount makes 4 place mats.

When completed, each mat measures about 8½ x 14 inches.

Nile Green Block: Ch 24. 1st row: 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook, and s c in each st of foundation ch. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 1 d c in back loop of next s c, * ch 2, skip 2 s c, d c in back loop of each of next 2 s c, repeat from * 4 more times, ch 5, turn. 3rd row: 2 d c in 1st open sp, * ch 2, 2 d c in next open sp, and repeat from * 3 more times, ch 2, 1 d c into last d c of preceding row, ch 3, turn. 4th row: 1 d c in 1st open sp, * ch 2, 2 d c in next open sp, repeat from * 4 more times. Ch 5, turn. 5th and 6th rows: Same as 3rd and 4th rows. 7th row: Same as 3rd row, except ch 2 at end of row; turn. 8th row: 1 s c into back loop of each st across.

Ecru Block: Ch 24. 1st row: 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook and s c in each st of foundation ch. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: 1 s c in back loop of next st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 s c in next st, repeat from * across, ch 2, turn. 3rd row: 1 s c in back loop of each st across. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 6 more times.

Each mat requires 17 Nile Green blocks and 18 Ecru blocks. Whip blocks together, alternating colors in checkerboard style (starting with Ecru), 7 blocks long and 5 blocks wide.
