FRONT ... Starting at bottom with White, ch 55 to measure 6½ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Dc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each dc across. Break off White. 4th row: Attach Red, ch 3, dc in next 34 sc, thread over, insert hook in next sc and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops, drop Red and draw loop of White through, thus changing color. Always change color in this manner. Break off Red. With White, make dc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 5th, 6th and 7th rows: Repeat 3rd, 2nd and 3rd rows once more. 8th row: Repeat 4th row, making 24 Red dc on row. 9th, 10th and 11th rows: Repeat 3rd, 2nd and 3rd rows once more. 12th row: Repeat 4th row, making 12 Red dc. Repeat 3rd and 2nd rows alternately until 25 rows are completed. Continue in pattern, making Red Stripes to correspond at corner diagonally opposite. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows once more. Break off.
BACK ... Work in pattern as for Front, omitting stripes. Place Front and Back pieces together and, working over both thicknesses with White, make sc closely along three edges. Break off. Sew on bone ring.
