Childs Crochet Mittens Pattern #606

Size: 2 or 3-years

REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 1-ounce of Ombre or Variegated Knitting Worsted; 1-ounce of 4-ply Knitting Worsted – plain color
CROCHET HOOK: #5 Bone

GAUGE: 4½ sts to an inch. 5 rows to an inch.

   LEFT MITTEN: Palm: Using the plain colored yarn, make a chain of 23 sts, loosely. Row 1: Make 1 s c in 2nd chain from hook, 1 s c in each of the remaining 21 chain sts, (22 s c). Ch 1, turn. Row 2: 1 s c in each stitch across row. Ch 1, turn. Row 3: Make 2 s c in first st, 1 s c in each st to end of row, (23 s c). Ch 1, turn. Row 4: Make 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 1, turn. Row 5: Repeat row 2 (24 sts). Row 6: Make 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 1, turn. Row 7: Make a decrease as follows: pull up a loop in each of the next 2 sts, yarn over and pull yarn through all 3 loops; 1 s c in next 12 sts; make a chain of 9 sts for thumb; turn; 1 s c in 2nd chain from hook; 1 s c in each of the remaining 7-chain sts; 1 s c in last 10 sts, ending at the cuff. Ch 1, turn. Row 8: Make 1 s c in next 18 sts; (working through foundation chain) make 1 s c in each of the next 8 sts; 1 s c in last 13 sts, ending at tip of mittens, (39 s c). Ch 1, turn. Row 9: Make a decrease at the beginning of row; 1 s c in each stitch to end of row, (going around thumb). Ch 1, turn. Row 10: Make 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 1, turn. Row 11: 1 s c in next 12 sts; skip the next 16 sts of thumb; 1 s c in last 10 sts. Break yarn.
   LEFT MITTEN: Back of hand: Using the ombre yarn, make first 6 rows as on palm. Row 7: Make a decrease at the beginning of row; 1 s c in each st to end of row. Ch 1, turn. Row 8: 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 1, turn. Row 9: Repeat row 7. Row 10: Make 1 s c in each st across row. Break yarn.
   FINISHING: Pin the two pieces together. Tie plain colored yarn at corner of cuff. Single crochet pieces together. Make 1 row of s c around cuff. Sew thumb. Make a chain length desired. Sew onto mitten. Trim with pompom.
   RIGHT MITTEN: As there is no right or wrong to crocheted mitten, in single crocheting the mitten together, place the thumb so as to make a right one.
