Log Cabin Afghan Pattern #6605

Size—About 50 x 66 inches

The original design of this Afghan must have been inspired in the Log Cabin days of Abraham Lincoln. Strength and simplicity of pattern make it truly beautiful. It may be worked in Hit and Miss manner, using any colors desired; or according to instructions below.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

MINERVA MILADY KNITTING YARN (4 ounce skeins)
4 Skeins—Any Dark Brown
6 Skeins—Any Light Beige
6 Skeins—Any Copper or Tile Red Shade
3 Skeins—Any Light Green
2 Skeins—Any Dark Green
—OR—
MINERVA AFGHAN GERMANTOWN (2 ounce skeins)
7 Skeins—Any Dark Brown
9 Skeins—Any Light Beige or Parchment
11 Skeins—Any Copper or Tile Red Shade
5 Skeins—Any Light Green
4 Skeins—Any Dark Green

ATHENA NONINFLAMMABLE CROCHET HOOK—Size 4—6 inch

GAUGE: 5 Sts. to 1 inch.

This Afghan contains 48—8 inch Squares, joined together 6 Squares wide and 8 Squares long.

TO MAKE A SQUARE:

Starting center block of Square with Copper or Tile Red, Ch. 14, turn, work 13 S.C. on Ch., Ch. 1, turn and work even for 13 rows to form square.
STRIPE 1—Join Dark Green in any corner of square
and work 1 S.C. in each St. across 2 sides of square only for 5 rows, working 3 S.C. in St. at corner of square (always Ch. 1 to turn at end of each row).
STRIPE 2—With Light Beige or Parchment work 5 S.C. across end of Stripe 1, then across the 2 sides of center Block, (working 3 S.C. at corner) then 5 S.C. across other end of Stripe 1, Ch. 1 to turn. Work 4 more rows of S.C. in same manner.
STRIPES 3, 4, 5 and 6 are worked in same manner as Stripe 2, using the following colors:
STRIPE 3—Light Green
STRIPE 4—Copper or Tile Red
STRIPE 5—Dark Brown
STRIPE 6—Light Beige or Parchment
Crochet Squares together as illustrated with S.C. on right side of work, using the same color as in center block.

BORDER:

With Dark Brown work 1 S.C. in each St., skipping 2 Sts. each side of joining of squares and working a Shell of 7 D.C. at each joining line, and at each corner.
