Century Luncheon Set Pattern #7074

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (15 balls) or J. & P. Coats (11 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 20, White or Ecru.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.

Set consists of 4 place mats, each about 12 x 18 inches, and a center mat about 14 x 24 inches.

Place Mat. Make a chain tightly (about 16 ch sts to 1 inch) to measure about 20 inches, turn. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each of next 3 ch, * ch 4, skip 4 ch, d c in each of next 4 ch (1 bl made). Repeat from * across until row measures 17 inches, ending with a bl. (Cut off remaining chain.) Ch. 7, turn. 2nd row: Skip 2 d c, * tr in last d c of same bl, ch 4, tr in 1st d c of next bl, ch 4. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: 2 d c in 1st sp, * d c in next tr, ch 4, d c in next tr, 2 d c in sp. Repeat from * across, ending row with a bl. Ch 7, turn. The last 2 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 2 rows until mat measures about 10½ inches deep, ending with a bl-row. Do not break off.

Edging: Ch 4, d c in base of d c just made, * 5 d c in ch-7 sp, d c at tip of next d c, ch 1, d c in base of same d c. Repeat from * around, making 2 d c with ch 3 between the d c's in corner st. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: D c in each d c and in each ch-1, making 7 d c in each corner sp. Join with sl st.

3rd rnd: * Ch 3, tr in each of next 2 d c, ch 3, sl st in each of next 4 d c. Repeat from * around, taking care to have a petal come at each corner. Break off. Make 3 more mats.

Center Mat. Make a chain to measure about 26 inches long, turn. Work as for place mat, but having the 1st row measure 23 inches (instead of 17 inches), and working for 12½ inches deep.
