Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 30, 4 balls of Sport Green and 3 balls of Bright Nile Green; or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 30, 3 balls of Sport Green and 2 balls of Bright Nile Green.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.

This material is sufficient for a set of 6 coasters, each 3 inches in diameter without edging.

Lower Piece: Starting at center, with Sport Green ch 3, turn. 1st rnd: 6 s c in 2nd ch from hook. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: * S c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c. Repeat from * around. Repeat 2nd rnd, but increasing only where necessary to keep work flat, until there are 140 s c in the rnd, then sl st in each of next 3 s c. Next rnd: Working into each s c around work: 2 s c, * 2 half d c, 2 d c, 4 tr, 8 d tr, 4 tr, 2 d c, 2 half d c, 4 s c. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with 2 s c. Join with sl st. Following rnd: S c in 2nd s c, * half d c in each of next 2 half d c, 2 d c in next d c, d c in next d c, 2 tr in next tr, tr in each of next 3 tr, d tr in each of next 3 d tr, 2 d tr in each of next 2 d tr, d tr in next 3 d tr, tr in each of next 3 tr, 2 tr in next tr, d c in next d c, 2 d c in last d c, half d c in each of next 2 half d c, s c in each of 4 s c. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st. 3rd rnd: Ch 2, s c in each st around, increasing if necessary to keep work flat. Break off.

Upper Piece: With Bright Nile Green ch 11, turn. 1st row: S c in 3rd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: 2 s c in 1st s c, s c in each s c across, 2 s c in last s c. Ch 2, turn. Repeat 2nd row until there are 42 s c in the row. Work 4 rows straight. Then, on next row and the following 4th row, increase 1 st at both ends (46 s c). Work 1 row straight. Break off. Make another piece same as this. Do not break off, but work a row of s c around curved edge only, then around curved edge of 1st piece, thus joining the 2 pieces. Break off. Place this over lower piece, having slit at center. With 4 strands of Sport Green, work a round of blanket stitch around the edge of upper piece, catching in lower piece, thus to join.
