South Sea Dancer Doll

Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, Article 90, Size 5
2 balls Royal Blue
1  ball each Yellow and Light Emerald
Steel crochet hooks No. 4 and No. 6
6 inches Medium Wire
3—1½ in. lengths of fine covered wire
One 7 inch Doll

DRESS, HAT AND PANTIES are worked with No. 6 hook and trim for dress and hat is worked with No. 4 hook.
BODICE—With Blue ch 32, d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining st of ch, turn.
2nd Row—Ch 3 (counts as 1 d c), working in d c increase 2 d c evenly spaced. Work 1 row even in d c, cut thread, turn.
4th Row—Attach Blue in 6th st, 1 s c in each of the next 2 d c, 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, 1 tr c in next d c, 3 tr c in next d c, 1 tr c in next d c, 1 d c in next d c, 1 s c in next d c, sl st in each of the next 2 sts, 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next d c, 1 tr c in next d c, 3 tr c in next d c, 1 tr c in next d c, 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, 1 s c in each of the next 2 d c, sl st in next st, cut thread.
STRAPS—Attach Blue in center tr c of 1st tr c group, then work a ch 6 inches long, cut thread. Attach Blue in center tr c of next 3 tr c, then work another ch 6 inches long, cut thread.
With wrong side of 1st row toward you working on opposite side of starting ch, attach thread in 1st st, ch 4, 2 tr c in same space, * 2 tr c in next st, 3 tr c in next st, repeat from * across row, join, cut thread, do not turn.
Next Round—Start skirt, take 1 strand each of Blue, Green and Yellow and No. 4 hook, attach threads in 1st st, 1 s c in same space, draw up a 4 inch loop, drop loop from hook, * insert hook in next st, pull loop through, yarn over and pull through loop just made, draw up a 4 inch loop, drop loop from hook, repeat from * all around, join, cut threads. With wrong side of work toward you, place wire over last round of Blue and overcast wire onto skirt. Fold back remaining wire. Cut loops and trim.
PANTIES—With Blue ch 40, join to form a ring, ch 3, 1 d c in each st of ch, join in 3rd st of ch 3, ch 3 to turn all rounds.
2nd and 3rd Rounds—1 d c in each d c.
4th Round—Working in d c, decrease 2 sts evenly spaced (to decrease: * thread over hook, insert in next st, pull loop through, thread over and work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, thread over and work off all loops at one time).
5th Round—Decrease 5 sts evenly spaced.
6th Round—Decrease 5 sts evenly spaced, do not join, ch 3, turn.
7th Row—Work 1 d c in each d c, do not join, cut thread, turn.
Attach Blue in joining of 1st row, ch 7, skip 19 sts, sl st in next st, cut thread.
TRIM FOR DRESS—With Yellow ch 7, sl st in 6th st from hook, repeat from until piece measures 10 inches, ch 1, cut thread.
2nd Row—Working on opposite side of work, attach Green in the last ch 1 made, ch 6, sl st in same space, * ch 1, keep Yellow picot downward, sl st in next ch 1, ch 6, sl st in same space, repeat from * across row, cut thread. Sew to last row of bodice as illustrated. Place dress on doll, cross straps at back and lace straps through back of bodice, finish with bow. Place panties on doll, sew opening closed or finish with hook and eye.
HEAD PIECE—With Blue ch 12, s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in next st of ch, 1 s d c in next st (s d c: thread over hook, insert in st, pull through, thread over and work off all loops at one time), 1 d c in next st, 1 tr c in each of the next 3 sts, 1 d c in next st, 1 s d c in next st, 1 s c in each of the next 2 sts, cut thread. Work 1 more section in Blue, 1 Green and 1 Yellow. Sew together as illustrated. Take three 1½ inch lengths of wire and sew at joining. Sew in position on head.
