Orange Towel Edging Set Pattern

Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.
An orange bath towel, hand towel and wash cloth.

BATH TOWEL EDGING (Make 2) … Starting at long side with Tango, make a chain slightly longer than width of towel. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across until piece reaches across towel, having a number of dc (counting turning chain) divisi­ble by 7 and 2 more at end of row. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first dc, * ch 25, make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sc in next 7 dc. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in top of turning chain. Break off. Sew edgings to towel.

HAND TOWEL EDGING (Make 2) … Work as for Bath Towel Edging until first row has been completed, having a number of dc divisible by 5 (instead of 7) and 2 more at end of row. 2nd row: Sc in first dc, * ch 15, make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sc in next 5 dc. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in top of turning chain. Break off. Sew edgings to towel.

WASH CLOTH EDGING1st rnd: Attach Tango to any corner, sc closely around. Join. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), sc in next 5 sc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

MONOGRAMS … Draw block letters on tracing paper, 5¾ inches high for bath towel, 4¼ inches for hand towel and 2¼ inches for wash cloth. Pin letter in place on towel and baste around outline. Remove paper. Now make strip for letter as follows: With Parakeet, make a chain slightly longer than length of letter, having a number of chains divisible by 5. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in next ch, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, dc in next 3 ch. Repeat from * across. Now sl st all around outer edge. Join and break off. Make enough strips to complete letter. Sew strips in place. Complete other pieces the same way.
