Sea Green Edging & Monogram Set Pattern

A green bath towel, wash cloth, and 2 hand towels, 30 inches in length … A waste basket, 29 inches around outer edge.
Coats & Clark's "Trouble-Free" Zipper, Art. F.13, the same length as height of basket.

BATH TOWEL EDGING (Make 2) … Starting at long side, make a chain slightly longer than width of towel. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across until piece reaches across towel, having a number of dc (including turning chain) divisible by 8 and 5 more at end of row. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Skip first 4 dc, sc in next dc, * ch 5, skip next 3 dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in top of turning chain. Ch 5, turn. 3rd to 8th rows incl: Make 2 sc in first loop, * ch 5, 2 sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn. Break off at end of 8th row.

FRINGE … Cut 7 strands of thread, each 3 inches long. Double strands to form a loop. Insert hook through first loop on edging and draw looped strands through. Draw loose ends through loop and pull up tightly. Make a fringe in every other loop across. Trim ends evenly. Sew edgings in place. Complete one hand towel the same way.

WASH CLOTH EDGING1st rnd: Attach thread to any corner and sc closely around. Join with sl st to first sc. 2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, skip next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off.

WASTE BASKET … Cut remaining hand towel to fit waste basket, allowing 1 inch for hems. Turn under ½ inch at each end and sew in place. Make 2 pieces of edging the same as for towels and long enough to reach around basket, having 5 rows of loops on each piece. Sew in place. Sew zipper in place on hemmed edges.

MONOGRAMS … Draw letters on tracing paper, 7 inches high for bath towel; 4 inches for hand towel and waste basket, and 2 inches for wash cloth. Pin letters in place on bath towel and baste around out­line. Remove paper. Now make strip for letter as follows: Make a chain slightly longer than length of letter, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off. Sew in place on towel. Complete other pieces the same way.
