Lace Ruff Pattern #54

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls. Size 30, White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8.

Center Band. To begin, make ch to measure about 3 inches longer than neck measurement (16 inch neck measurement), for working takes up a part of this allowance. 1st row: S c in 7th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 3 sts of foundation ch, s c in next st, and repeat from * until sufficient ch-3 loops have been made to measure 16 inches. Ch 5 turn. Additional ch left over may be cut off after the ruff is completed. 2nd to 10th rows incl: S c in 1st loop, * ch 3, s c in next loop and repeat from * to end of row. Ch 5 turn. The 10th row completes band. Do not break off. Ch 9, turn.

Ruffle. 1st row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 7, s c in next loop and repeat from * 4 more times, ch 7, s c in same loop as previous s c, ch 7, s c in next loop and repeat from * to end of row. Ch 9, turn. 2nd to 12th rows incl: S c in 1st loop, * ch 7, s c in next loop and repeat from * to end of row. Ch 9, turn. Fasten thread and break off. Work other side of band to correspond.

Tie Strings (2). Make ch 6 inches long to fasten to one end of center band and finish off with a crocheted ball, stuffed with a bit of cotton. Starch ruff and press.
