MATERIALS:

CLARK'S O.N.T. or J. & P. COATS "BRILLIANT," 1 ball of a shaded color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 10.

Starting at center, ch 4. 1st rnd: In 4th ch from hook, make 2 d c, (ch 3, 3 d c) 3 times; ch 3, sl st in top st of ch-4 first made. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, * d c in each d c to within next corner sp, in sp make 2 d c, ch 2 and 2 d c. Repeat from * around. Sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. Repeat this rnd until piece measures ⅝ inch smaller all around, than compact. Now work as follows: 1st rnd: Ch 1, work s c in each st around, making 3 s c in each corner sp. Join with sl st to 1st s c made. 2nd rnd: * Draw loop out to measure ¼ inch, thread over, insert hook in same place as last loop was drawn through. Repeat from * 3 more times; draw loop out as before, thread over, skip 1 st, insert hook in next st and draw loop out as before, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to fasten (a loop-cluster made). Thread over, insert hook in same place as last long loop of cluster was drawn through. Repeat from * around, making ch-3 between loop-clusters at each corner. Join. 3rd rnd: Ch 1, work s c in each st around (2 sts for each loop-cluster), making 5 s c in each corner sp. 4th and 5th rnds: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rnds respectively. Fasten off. Make another piece same as this. Place crocheted pieces over each other, right side facing, and sew edges together with neat over-and-over stitches, leaving one side open. Turn right side out.
