Infant's Coat and Bonnet Pattern

Materials for Set

10 ozs. CYNTHIA Germantown or 12 ozs. Knitting Worsted Pink No. 358.
Bone crochet hook No. 5.
2 yards satin ribbon ½ inch wide.
1 yarn satin ribbon 1 inch wide

Gauge: 2 shells = 1 inch

Coat

Beginning at neck, ch 60. 1st row: 1 DC in 4th st from hook, 1 DC in each of next 9 sts (front), 3 DC in next st, 1 DC in each of next 4 sts (shoulder), 3 DC in next st, 1 DC in each of next 25 sts (back), 3 DC in next st, 1 DC in each of next 4 sts (shoulder), 3 DC in next st, 1 DC in each of next 10 sts, ch 3, turn.

2nd row: 1 DC in each st and 3 DC in center st of each increasing point. Repeat 2nd row 5 times (7 rows in all from beginning), ch 3, turn.

8th row: 3 DC in 1st st, skip 2, 1 SC in next st, * ch 3, 3 DC in same st, skip 2 sts, 1 SC in next st, repeat from * across row, ending with 1 SC in last st, ch 3, turn.

9th row: 3 DC in 1st SC, 1 SC over ch 3 of first shell, ch 3, 3 DC in same place, 1 SC over ch 3 of next shell, * ch 3, 3 DC in same place, 1 SC over ch 3 of next shell, repeat from * 4 times, ch 14, skip 5 shells (sleeve), 1 SC over ch 3 of next shell, work 13 shells across back, ch 14, skip 5 shells (sleeve), work 6 shells across front, ch 3, turn. Work even in pattern, having 4 patterns at un­derarm, until there are 28 rows in all. Fasten off.

Sleeves: Attach yarn at underarm and work 14 rows of pattern; join each row with a slip st, ch 3, turn and work back across row.

Cuff: 1st row: 1 SC in each point with ch 2 be­tween SCs. 2nd and 3rd rows: 1 DC in each st, join and fasten off.

Finishing: Work 3 rows DC on each front edge. On 2nd row on right edge make 4 buttonholes in yoke section and 5 buttonholes in body, spac­ing evenly. Work 2 rows DC around neck edge.

Bonnet

Ch 72, 3 DC in 4th st from hook, skip 3 sts, 1 SC in next st, * ch 3, 3 DC in same st, skip 3 sts, 1 SC in next st, repeat from * across row, ch 3, turn. Work 8 rows of shell pattern, fasten off. Attach yarn in ch 3 loop of 6th shell on foundation ch and work shell st across center 5 shells (back) for 12 rows. Fasten off. Sew each side of back to front. Work 1 row SC around lower edge, work­ing 1 SC in each point across back with ch 1 be­tween SCs. Work 2 more rows of SC, working 1 SC in each st and fasten off. Make 2 rosettes of the ½ inch ribbon; cut two ½ yard lengths of the 1 inch ribbon. Sew a rosette to one end of each length and attach to each side of bonnet.
