10 metal rings, ⅞ inch diameter
A piece of felt 12 inches in diameter.

GAUGE: 3 sps make 1 inch; 5 rnds make 2 inches.

BASE . . . Starting at center with Black, ch 2. 1st rnd: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join rnds. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: Sc in each sc, increasing 7 sc evenly around. Repeat 4th rnd until piece measures 10 inches in diameter. Sl st in next sc. Break off.

SIDEBackground . . . Starting at lower edge, make a chain 33 inches long. Join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 4, skip 1 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join to 3rd ch of ch-4. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, * dc in next dc, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join. Repeat 2nd rnd until 18 rnds have been completed. Break off.

To make stripes: 1st stripe: Attach Aqua around bar of any dc on first rnd and, working horizontally, hold thread on top of work, insert hook under first dc bar * thread over and draw loop through, thread over and draw through both loops on hook, ch 1, insert hook under next dc bar. Repeat from * around, working over starting chain as over dc's. Join last ch 1 to first sc. Work 2 more sc rnds of Aqua over same rnd of dc-sps (this completes one stripe—wrong side of work is right side of pattern). Now work alternate stripes of White and Aqua across entire background to within last 2 rnds. Attach Black to any sp on top and sc closely around. Join and break off.

Cut a cardboard circle 10 inches in diameter, cover with felt, stitching excess under cardboard. Sew to Bag. Sew crocheted base in place. Sew rings around top of bag.

CORD . . . Cut 8 strands of Aqua and Black, each 54 inches long, double Aqua strands, then draw Black strands through loop and double. Twist these strands tightly, then double and give them a twist in the opposite direction. Draw Cord through rings and knot ends together, leaving 2 inches free for tassel. Make another Cord the same way.
