Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 8 balls of Ecru and 1 ball each of color 68 Skipper Blue and 38 Dark Orange. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 3. Two acorn nut buttons.
Gauge: 4 rows equal 1 inch; 4 knot meshes equal 1 inch.
For different size or shaping, turn to directions on patternbook page.
Work starts at waistline. The blouse is made up from waistline and the skirt down.
Blouse: Back: With Ecru, ch 108 (or half of waist measurement). 1st row: 1 half d c in 3rd ch from hook, 1 half d c in each st of ch, ch 2, turn. 2nd row: 1 knot mesh (to make knot mesh, draw loop on hook out ⅛ inch, draw thread through, thus making a loose ch st, insert hook between loop and single thread of this ch, same as for a knot st, draw out a loop, skip 1 st of row below, insert hook in next st, draw out a loop, then take off the 3 loops on hook 2 at a time, the same as making a d c). Continue making 1 knot mesh in every 2nd st to end of row. Ch 2, turn. 3rd to 11th rows incl: 1 knot mesh in each loose ch (inserting hook under the 2 top threads). Ch 2, turn.
12th to 21st rows incl: Increase 1 knot mesh near beginning of each row. (To increase, make 2 knot meshes in 1). Place increases so that they do not come over each other. 22nd to 31st rows incl: Work knot meshes without increasing (63 knot meshes). At end of 31st row, ch l, turn. Then start to shape raglan armhole. 32nd to 52nd rows incl: Decrease 1 knot mesh at beginning of each row as follows: S c in 1st knot mesh, continue making 1 knot mesh in each knot mesh to end of row. Ch 1, turn. (42 meshes). 53rd row: Decrease 1 knot mesh as previously done, work 18 knot meshes, ch 1, turn. 54th row: Decrease 1 knot mesh, work 17 knot meshes, ch 1, turn. 55th row: Decrease 1 knot mesh, work knot meshes to within 2 meshes from end of last row, ch 1, turn.
56th to 62nd rows incl: Alternate 54th and 55th rows. 1 knot mesh will remain. Break thread. Attach thread to other side and work to a point to correspond.
Front: Same as back.
Raglan Sleeve: Starting at top, ch 5, turn. 1st row: 1 knot mesh in 3rd ch from hook, skip 1 ch, work 1 knot mesh in next st. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: 2 knot meshes in 1st knot mesh, 2 knot meshes in last knot mesh, ch 3, turn. 3rd row: 2 knot meshes in 1st knot mesh, 1 knot mesh in each of remaining meshes, ch 3, turn. 4th row: Same as 2nd row, but ch 2, turn. 5th row: 1 knot mesh in each mesh, 2 knot meshes in last knot mesh. 6th to 32nd rows incl: Repeat 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rows in order. 33rd to 63rd rows incl: 1 knot mesh in each knot mesh. Ch 2, turn. 64th to 105th rows incl: * Work 1 row evenly and decrease 1 knot mesh at beginning of each of the following 2 rows. Repeat from *.
Skirt front: Work 53 knot meshes along other side of ch made to start front of blouse. Ch 2, turn. 2nd to 8th rows incl: Work evenly. 9th to 108th rows incl: Increase 1 mesh every 2nd row, placing increases so they do not come over each other, and distributing them evenly. 109th and subsequent rows: Work evenly until skirt measures desired length.
Back: Work same as front. Whip side seams. Sew sleeve seams, leaving a 3-inch opening at wrist. Sew sleeves into armholes.
Yoke: 1st row: Starting at center of 52nd row of front of blouse, work 2 knot meshes, then work 22 knot meshes up to point, work 2 knot meshes over top of sleeve, 22 knot meshes down to 52nd row of back, 4 knot meshes across 4 free meshes of this row, 22 knot meshes up to other point, 2 knot meshes over top of sleeve, 22 knot meshes down to 52nd row of front. Finish with 2 knot meshes. This brings work to start of yoke. Ch 2, turn. 2nd to 11th rows incl: Decrease 5 knot meshes to each row, spacing decreases at equal intervals and not placing them over those of previous row, ch 2, turn. (To decrease knot mesh, work as for a knot mesh until there are 3 loops on hook, then insert hook in next mesh, draw through another loop, making 4 loops on hook, take off 3 loops at one time, then take off remaining 2 loops.)
Neckline: Attach Skipper Blue at base of front opening. Work enough s c up to corner to keep work flat. Make 3 s c in corner st and continue around neckline with s c's. Do not break thread, but attach Orange. 2nd rnd: With Orange, work s c in each s c, and 3 s c in each corner s c, picking up back loops of sts only. Break off Orange. 3rd rnd: Pick up Blue and work same as 2nd rnd.
Cuff Trim: Attach Blue 1½ inches down from sleeve opening on the inside (holding wrong side of work towards you). 1st row: Make a close row of s c's, keeping work flat. Work 3 s c's at each corner. Work around cuff to within 1½ inches from sleeve opening. Fasten off. 2nd row: Attach Orange at beginning of last row and work s c in back loop of each st, with 3 s c's in each corner st. Fasten off. 3rd row: Attach Blue at beginning of last row and work same as 2nd row. Fasten off. Finish other sleeve the same. Turn back cuffs and fasten with snap fasteners.
Belt: With Blue, make ch about 2 inches longer than waist measure. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each st of ch. Fasten off. 2nd row: Attach Orange at beginning of last row. S c in back loop of each st across. Fasten off. 3rd row: Attach Blue at beginning of last row and work same as 2nd row. Fasten off. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows 2 more times. Fasten belt with buckle or snap fasteners.
Sew buttons at neck as in illustration and fasten with double loop made with ch st, worked with sl st.
