REQUIREMENTS:
THREAD: 250-yds. Bedspread Cotton
300-yds. No. 20 Crochet Cotton
CROCHET HOOK: 1 steel No. 7
Flowers for trimming
8-inch Character Doll

   BODICE: Using the #7 hook and bedspread cotton, make a chain of 33 sts, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook, 1 s c in each remaining chain (32 s c). Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 5th rows incl: S c in each st across row. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: S c across row, increasing 4 sts evenly spaced apart (36 s c). Ch 1, turn. 7th row: 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 1, turn. 8th row: Repeat 6th row. 9th-10th rows: Repeat row 2. Break thread. Shaping neck and shoulders: Mark center of bodice. Row 1: Tie thread at s c marked (20th s c), s c in same st, 1 s c in next 8 sts, ch 1, turn. Row 2: S c in each st to within last 2 sts, work off 2 s c as one st (decrease). Ch 1, turn. Row 3: 1 s c in each st across row. Ch 1, turn. Rows 4 to 7th incl: Repeat last 2 rows. Row 8: Repeat row 2. Rows 9 and 10: 1 s c in each st across. Rows 11 to 16th incl: Work in s c increasing 1 st at decreased edge every other row. Break thread, leaving 6 inches. Sew these 8 sts to first 8 sts on back, forming armhole. Tie thread on other side of marker and work to correspond.

   SKIRT: Tie thread to opposite side of starting chain, ch 4, make 2 tr c in each st across (64 tr c). Join this round and every round hereafter. Ch 4, turn. 2nd rd: Picking up the back thread only, * 1 tr c in next st, 2 tr c in next st; repeat from * around. Ch 4. 3rd rd: Picking up both loops of sts * 2 tr c in next st, 1 tr c in next 2 sts; repeat from * around. Ch 4. 4th rd: * 2 tr c in next st, 1 tr c in next 3 sts; repeat from * around. Ch 4. 5th rd: * 2 tr c in next st, 1 tr c in each of next 4 sts; repeat from * around. Ch 4. 6th rd: Picking up the back thread only, 1 tr c in each st around. Ch 4. 7th and 8th rds: Repeat 6th round, working thru both threads of sts on row below. Break thread.

   RUFFLES ON SKIRT: Tie white thread at back of skirt on loop (between 1st and 2nd rd). Ch 4, s c in next st, repeat around. Mark beginning of round as an aid in counting. 2nd rd: Ch 5, s c in next loop, repeat around. 3rd rd: Ch 6, s c in next loop, repeat around. 4th rd: Ch 7, s c in next loop, repeat around. 5th rd: Ch 7, s c in next loop, repeat around. 6th rd: Ch 8, s c in next loop, repeat around. 7th rd: * Ch 3, in next loop make 2 tr c, chain 4, slip st back in tr c (picot), 2 tr c, picot, 2 tr c; ch 3, s c in next loop; repeat from * around. Fasten off. Make another ruffle on the loops between 5th and 6th rounds.

   HAT: Starting at the crown and using bedspread cotton, ch 8 sts, join to form a ring. Ch 4, 25 tr c into ring. Join round. Ch 4. 2nd rd: picking up the back thread only, make 1 tr c in each st. Join rd. Ch 1. 3rd rd: 1 s c in each st around. Break thread. Attach white and work as follows: * Ch 5, skip 1 st, 1 s c in next st, repeat from * around. Now work the 3rd to 7th rounds of the ruffle. Fasten off. Trim with flowers as in illustration.

   BOUQUET RUFFLE: Using the white, make a chain of 27 sts. Join to form a ring. Start with the 3rd round of hat, and complete thru the 7th round. Fasten off. Gather up thru the center. Sew on flowers. Slip: Gather 4 inch ribbon and draw tightly to fit the waist.
