MATERIALS:
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 16 balls.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.

Completed runner measures about 15" x 45".

Gauge: Motif measures 1½ inches across sides.

MOTIF … Ch 5, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), 2 d c in ring; * ch 3 (corner), 5 d c in ring. Repeat from * twice, ch 3, 2 d c in ring, sl st in top of 1st ch-3. 2nd rnd: Ch 5, * make 3 tr in corner ch-3, retaining on hook last loop of each tr; thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 tightly (cluster); ch 3 for corner, make another cluster in same sp, ch 4, s c in center d c of 5-d c group, ch 4. Repeat from *, joining last ch-4 to 1st ch of 1st ch-5. Fasten off. This completes first motif.

SECOND MOTIF … Work 1st rnd as for previous motif. 2nd rnd: Ch 5, cluster in corner ch-3, ch 1, drop loop from hook and insert hook in corresponding sp between 2 clusters of previous motif, draw loop through; ch 2, another cluster in same sp on motif in work, ch 4, s c in center d c of 5-d c group, ch 4, cluster in next corner, ch 1, join as before to corresponding corner of previous motif (ch 2, after joining); cluster in same sp on motif in work. Complete rnd as for previous motif (no more joinings).

Work 10 x 29 motifs, joining at all corresponding corners.
