Clark's O.N.T. or J & P. Coats Best Six Cord Mercerized Crochet, Size 30:
Small Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.—5 balls of White or Ecru, or 7 balls of any color. or
J. & P. Coats—4 balls of White or Ecru, or 5 balls of any color.
Big Ball:
Clark's O.N.T.—2 balls of White or Ecru. or
J. & P. coats—2 balls of White or Ecru, or 3 balls of any color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10 or 11.

Completed runner measures about 11½ x 23 inches.

Gauge: Motif measures about 3 inches in diameter.

FIRST MOTIF … Starting at center, ch 10, join with sl st. 1st rnd: 24 s c in ring; join. 2nd rnd: Ch 4 (to count as d c and ch-1), * d c in next s c, ch 1. Repeat from * around; join (24 sps). 3rd rnd: S c in sl st, * s c in next sp, s c in next d c. Repeat from * around; join. 4th rnd: S c in each s c; join. 5th rnd: * Ch 10, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from * around (12 loops). 6th rnd: 13 s c in each loop. 7th rnd: Sl st in 4 s c, s c in next s c, ch 5 (to count as tr and ch-1), tr in next 4 s c with ch-1 between each tr; * skip 4 s c on this loop and 4 s c on next loop, tr in next 5 s c with ch-1 between each tr. Repeat from * around. Join to 4th st of ch-5. 8th rnd: S c in sl st, * s c in next sp, s c in next tr, ch 3, s c in 3rd ch from hook (p); ** s c in next sp, s c in next tr, p. Repeat from ** once more, s c in next sp, s c in next 2 tr. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.

SECOND MOTIF … Work 7 rnds as for first motif. 8th rnd: S c in sl st, * s c in next sp, s c in next tr, p, s c in next sp, s c in next tr, ch 1, join to center p of any 3-p group on first motif, ch 1 and complete p on 2nd motif, s c in next sp and work rnd as for 1st motif. Join 4 x 8 motifs, leaving two 3-p groups free between joinings.

FILL-IN LACE … Starting at center, ch 6, join. 1st rnd: 16 s c in ring; join. 2nd rnd: Ch 8, sl st in center p of any free p-group between motifs, * ch 8, skip 1 s c, s c in next s c on ring, ch 8, sl st in center p of next free p-group. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 8, skip 1 s c, s c in 1st s c made on ring. Fasten off.
