GAUGE … Each motif measures 3¼ inches in diameter before blocking.

FIRST MOTIF … Ch 10, join with sl st. 1st rnd: 16 s c in ring; sl st in 1st s c made. 2nd rnd: Ch 4 (to count as tr), make 3 tr in same place as sl st, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (a cluster made). * Ch 15, skip 1 s c, 4 tr in next s c, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr; complete cluster as before. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 15, sl st in tip of 1st cluster. 3rd rnd: In each ch-15 loop around make: 5 s c, ch 3, 5 s c, ch 5, 5 s c, ch 3 and 5 s c. Join and fasten off. 4th rnd: Attach thread to any ch-5 loop, ch 4 (to count as tr), make 3 tr in same loop, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr and complete a cluster as before. * Ch 10, in same loop make two 4-tr clusters separated by ch-10. Ch 5, make 3 tr in 5th ch from hook, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr and complete cluster as before; make cluster in next ch-5 loop. Repeat from * around. Join last cluster to tip of 1st cluster made. Fasten off. This completes one motif.

SECOND MOTIF … Work 1st 3 rnds as for first motif. 4th rnd: Work as for first motif to within 2nd ch-10 loop. Then ch 5, sl st in corresponding loop on first motif, ch 5 and work as for first motif to within next ch-loop. Join this loop to corresponding loop on first motif as before, and complete rnd as for first motif (no more joinings).
Make necessary number of motifs, joining 2 loops adjacent to horizontal cluster to corresponding loops of adjacent motif (2 loops free on each motif between joinings).

FILL-IN LACE … Attach thread to a free ch-10 loop between joinings. Ch 4 (to count as tr), make 3 tr in same loop, holding back on hook the last loop of each tr, and complete a cluster as before. * Ch 3, make a 4-tr cluster in next free loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, sl st in tip of 1st cluster. Fasten off. Fill in all spaces between joinings in this manner. Block cloth to measurements given.
