PADDING … Make a pad by cutting a square of padding, flannel or any soft material, slightly smaller than one of the crocheted pieces, and tack it to wrong side of first piece. Then, continuing in stripe pattern, dec. 1 s c at both ends of each row until 3 s c remain (to decrease, work off 2 s c as 1 s c). Fasten and break off. Make another piece same as this, working entirely in Blue. Make padding as for Pot Holder 7172-A, and join the 2 pieces with Blue s c. Fold this piece in half, attach Blue at one corner and, working through the two thicknesses, work a row of s c closely together across one short side. Fasten and break off. Work other side to correspond.
Cut 2 pieces of wood or cardboard, each 2½ x 10 inches, and insert between the two thicknesses of crocheted piece. With Blue work a row of s c to join the 2 long sides together. Fasten and break off.
