Size 14 Years

Materials:
Chadwick's Red Heart Shetland Floss, 6 balls (1 oz. balls).
6 buttons.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 1.

Gauge: 5 loops make 2 inches; 4 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at waistband, ch 16, turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across, picking up only the back loop of each s c. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until 36 ridges are made. Ch 3, turn. Then, work lengthwise on this piece as follows: 1st row: * Skip 1 row, s c at tip of next row, ch 3. Repeat from * across (35 loops). Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: 4 d c in 1st loop (1 bl made), * ch 2, s c in next loop, ch 2, 4 d c in next loop. Repeat from * across, ending row with 4 d c in last loop. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: S c in 4th d c of 1st bl, * ch 3, s c in 1st d c of next bl, ch 3, s c in 4th d c of same bl. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 4th row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 2, 1 bl in next loop, ch 2, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across, ending row with s c in last loop, ch 2, d c in same loop. Ch 4, turn. 5th row: * S c in 1st d c of next bl, ch 3, s c in 4th d c of same bl, ch 3. Repeat from * across, ending row with s c in 3rd st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. These last 4 rows constitute the pattern. Repeat these 4 rows until work measures 14 inches in all, ending piece with a loop row. Break off.

Front. Work exactly as for Back. Sew up underarm seams to within 5 inches from top.

Sleeve Band. Ch 8, turn and work as for waistband for 10 inches. Break off. Make another band same as this. Sew bands onto sleeve opening, leaving open at top. Then, working across top of Back, s c across each s c of sleeve band; then make 3 s c in each loop, s c across each s c of other sleeve band. Hereafter continue as for waistband for 1 inch. Break off. Work in same manner across top of Front.

Make three ch-7 loops on each side of Front, leaving 9 inches free at center for neck opening. Sew buttons on Back to correspond with buttonloops.
