MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, size 5, 2 balls each of light and dark colors.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 6 or 7.
A bone ring.
Starting at bottom with Light, ch 65 (to measure about 7 inches). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. 2nd row: Attach Dark to top st of turning ch, ch 1, sc in same place where Dark was attached, sc in each st across. Fasten off. Always attach new color with right side of previous row toward you. 3rd row: Attach Light to first st, ch 3, dc in next and each following st across. Fasten off. 4th row: Attach Dark to top st of ch-3; ch and work exactly as for 3rd row. Fasten off. 5th row: Attach Light color to top st of ch-3; ch 3 and work as for 3rd row. Fasten off. 6th row: Same as 2nd row. 7th row: Attach Light to 1st sc, ch 3, dc in next and each following st across. Ch 3, turn. 8th row: Dc in next and each dc across. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 8th row until piece measures 5 ½ inches in all, having right side of last row on same side as right side of 1st row. Omit turning ch at end of last row. Fasten off. Now work border to correspond with beginning. Fasten off.
Make another piece same as this, reversing colors. Do not break off at end of last row. Put padding in place (for padding, see pattern book); then, working through both thicknesses, make sc all around edges. Join to 1st sc. Fasten off. Sew ring at one corner.
