MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN
, 1 ball of Red and 1 ball of White or Ecru.
J. & P. COATS or CLARK'S O.N.T. SIX STRAND EMBROIDERY FLOSS, 1 skein each of Red and Green.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 6.
A bone ring.

The above amount of material is sufficient for 1 Flower Pot and 2 Pot Holders.

FLOWER POT (Front) . . . Starting at bottom with Red, ch 33, to measure 2 ¾ inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in next 2 ch. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last 2 ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 1, 2 sc in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc in last ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 sc in 1st ch-1 sp, * ch 1, 2 sc in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc in last ch-1 sp. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately 4 more times. Next row: Sc in 1st sc, ch 1, in next ch-1 sp make (2 sc, ch 1) twice (1 pattern increased); continue in pattern across to last ch-1 sp, inc 1 pattern as before and finish row. Work 9 rows straight in pattern. Repeat the last 10 rows 2 more times. Next row: Sc in back loop of each sc and each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Following row: Sc in back loop of each sc across. Ch 4, turn. Drop thread, attach another piece of thread at opposite end of row and ch 3. Drop this thread, go back and pick up thread at beginning of row and work as follows: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, * sc in back loop of next 2 sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc. Repeat from * across to chain, ending with sc in back loop of last 2 sc, then ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in last 2 ch. Ch 1, turn. Work straight in pattern for 5 rows. Inc 1 pattern at both ends of next row. Work straight in pattern for 4 more rows. Next row: Work sc in back loop of each sc and each ch across. Ch 1, turn. Following row: Work sc in back loop of each sc across. Fasten off.

FLOWER POT (Back) . . . Work as for Front, but do not fasten off at end of last row. Turn. Next row: Sl st in back loop of first 3 sc, * sc in back loop of next 2 sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc. Repeat from * across to within last 3 sc. Ch 1, turn. Following row: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 1, 2 sc in next sp. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc in 2nd sp from end. Ch 1, turn (2 sts decreased). Repeat the last row until all sts are decreased. Fasten off. Attach thread at any corner and work 1 row of sc around entire edge of each piece of Flower Pot. Place pieces together and work 1 row of sc through both pieces along sides and bottom. Fasten off. Sew a bone ring at tip.

POT HOLDER (Make 2) . . . With White make a chain to measure 6 inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in next 2 ch. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last 2 ch. Ch 1, turn. Work straight in pattern as on Flower Pot, until piece measures 6 inches. Fasten off.

Make another piece same as this. With full strand of Red, embroider tulip with outline stitch. With Green, embroider stem and leaf. Join pieces with neat over-and-over sts.
