SWEATER: Ch 52. Work 6 rows of sc. Pattern: Row 1—* 1 sc in each of the next 3 sc, 1 dc around post of 4th sc, inserting hook sideways (always skipping st behind); repeat from *, ending row with 3 sc, ch 1, turn. Row 2—1 sc in each st, ch 1, turn. Row 3—* 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, 1 dc around post of dc, (skipping st behind dc); repeat from *, ending with 3 sc, ch 1, turn. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 8 inches. Next row—sl st over 1st 4 sts, work within last 4 sts, continue in pattern for 4½ inches. Work over 14 sts for 5 rows, add 19 ch at neck edge, keeping the 1st 19 sts worked in sc, remaining sts in pattern. Work 1st buttonhole on 3rd row as follows: Starting at neck edge, work 1 sc in each of 1st 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 sc in each of next 12 sts, ch 1, skip 1, work to end of row. On next row, work 1 sc in ch 1. Repeat buttonholes every 3 inches. When piece measures 3½ inches from neck edge, add 5 ch to underarm edge. Work 8 inches, including 6 rows of sc. Fasten off. Omit 16 sts for neck, attach yarn, work other side to correspond, omitting buttonholes.
Sleeves: Ch 31. Work 8 rows of sc; work pattern, increasing 1 st on each side every 8th row until sleeve measures 7½ inches. Sl st over 1st 4 sts, work to within last 4 sts, sl st over 4 more sts, work to within last 8 sts, sl st over 4 more sts, work to within last 12 sts, fasten-off. Sew sleeves to sweater and sew up side seams.
Collar: Starting at center of right front, work 1 sc in each st to center of left front, ch 1, turn. Work back and forth in sc until collar measures 2½ inches, fasten off.
LEGGINGS: Ch 105. Work back and forth in sc for 8 inches. Work over 52 sts, add 11 ch for crotch, work over ch 11 and 52 sts for 8 inches. Next row—skip every other st to end of row. Work back and forth for 2½ inches and fasten off. Attach yarn to end of ch 11 at crotch, work over 11 ch and 52 sts for other leg to correspond. Work 1 row of dc to top; sew seams tog. Make a loose ch 32 inches long, lace thru as illustrated and trim with tassels.
CAP: Ch 64. Work 6 rows of sc. Work pattern for 4 inches. Continue pattern, working 3 sts in center st every other row 6 times. Fold piece up, crochet tog. with sc on right side. Work 1 row of sc on neck edge, skipping every 3rd st. 4 rows of sc, st for st. Fasten off. Make 2 pompoms and attach as illustrated. With 3 strands of yarn make a loose ch 12 inches long for tie string.
