MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 1 ball of a light color and 2 balls of a dark color.
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

GAUGE: Each motif measures 2¾ inches from corner to opposite corner.

Chair Back—12 x 18 inches
Arm Pieces—7½ x 9 inches

CHAIR BACK … Starting at center with Dark, ch 6. Join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 17 dc in ring. Join with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made. Fasten off. 2nd rnd: Attach Light to any st, ch 3, dc in same place as thread was attached, * dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, 2 dc in next st. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 2, sl st in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, * ch 5, dc in next 5 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5. Join as before. Fasten off. 4th rnd: Attach Dark in same place as last sl st, ch 3, dc in next 4 dc holding back on hook the last loop of each dc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (cluster made), * ch 5, sc in next sp, ch 5, dc in next 5 dc holding back the last loop of each dc and complete cluster as before. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, sl st in tip of 1st cluster made. 5th rnd: Ch 3, 4 dc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, sc in next sp, in the following sc and in the next sp (3 sc), ch 5, 5 dc in tip of next cluster. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-5 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-3 first made. Fasten off. Make 25 motifs in all. Arrange motifs as in illustration, having 7 motifs on first row, 6 motifs on second row, 5 on third row, 4 on fourth row and 3 motifs on fifth row. Sew together the three dc-groups of adjacent motifs with neat over-and-over sts on wrong side.

ARM PIECES … Make 10 motifs for each Arm Piece. Sew motifs together as for Chair Back, having 2 rows of 3 motifs with a row of 4 motifs between.
