Giant Lily Boutonniere Pattern #2251

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, 2 balls, size 30.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.
1 yard flower wire.
Bunch of stamens.

Center. Ch 12, join to form a ring. 1st rnd: Ch 6 (to count as d c and ch-3), * d c in ring, ch 3, repeat from * 6 more times, joining last ch 3 to 3rd st of ch-6 first made (8 sps). 2nd rnd: Over each loop work: 1 s c, 1 half d c, 3 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c. 3rd rnd: Ch 5, * s c in 1st d c of 1st rnd, ch 5, repeat from * around. 4th rnd: Over each loop work: 1 s c, 1 half d c, 5 d c, 1 half d c, l s c. 5th rnd: Ch 7, * s c in s c between petals of 3rd rnd, ch 7. Repeat from * around. 6th rnd: Over each loop work: 1 s c, 1 half d c, 7 d c, 1 half d c, 1 s c with ch 1 between each st. 7th rnd: In each ch-1 of previous rnd work: 1 d c with ch 2 between each d c. 8th rnd: * D c in next sp, ch 3, d c in same sp, ch 3, d c in next sp, ch 3. Repeat from * around. 9th rnd: * Ch 3, d c in next sp. Repeat from * around. 10th rnd: * Ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 2, d c in next sp. Repeat from * around. Break off. To make the inner layer, attach thread to 1 d c of 2nd rnd of petals, and work as follows: 1st rnd: Ch 4, * d c in next st, ch 1, repeat from * around. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rnds: Repeat 7th, 8th and 10th rnds of previous layer. Break off.

Large Petals. To begin, ch 5, turn. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row: S c in each s c across, making 2 s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. Hereafter, repeat this last row until there are 16 s c in the row. Work straight until piece measures 1¾ inches. Then decrease 1 st at beginning of each row until all s c are worked off. Break off. Sew wire along outer edges of each petal on wrong side, leaving an additional 4-inch length of wire for stem. Wind thread closely around stem. Make 9 more petals same as this. Draw stamens through the center of flower, twist a piece of wire around stamens at back of flower. Group the petals and flower center together, and tie all together securely.
