Headsize 21½

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. "Brilliant", 8 balls of main color and 1 ball of a contrasting color for center of flowers.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.
Cotton batting.

Gauge: 4 sps make 1 inch; 3 rows make 1 inch.

The foundation of hat is made first, then the flowers are made and sewed on.

Foundation. Starting at tip of crown, ch 3, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), * d c in ring, ch 2, repeat from * 5 more times. Join last ch-2 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-5 first made (7 sps). 2nd to 7th rnds incl: Ch 5 (to count as d c and ch-2), * d c in sp, ch 2, d c in same sp, ch 2, d c in next sp, ch 2. Repeat from * around. Join. 8th and 9th rnds: Ch 5, * d c in next sp, ch 2, repeat from * around. Join. 10th rnd: Repeat 2nd rnd. 11th and subsequent rnds: Repeat 8th rnd until work measures 6 inches from tip of crown. Then work a rnd of d c closely together. Break off.

Flowers. Starting at center, ch 3, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), make 25 d c in ring and join. 2nd rnd: * Ch 4, skip 4 d c, sl st in next d c, repeat from * around. Join. 3rd rnd: Into each ch-4 loop work: 1 s c, 2 d c, 3 tr, 2 d c, 1 s c. Break off. Make as many flowers as desired. Cup the center of each flower, fill firmly with cotton batting and sew to foundation. With double thread of contrasting color, make a French knot in center of each flower, twisting thread around needle 3 times.
