Pillow Case in Crocheted Embroidery Pattern #14

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
DAISY Mercerized Crochet Cotton size 30.
1-skein each No. 60 Lt. Green, No. 15S Shd. Pinks, No. 18S Shd. Lavenders and No. 19S Shd. Yellows.
Steel crochet hook No. 13.
A pair of white pillow cases.
Rip out hem of pillow case, press out creases.

EDGING—Braid—With Lt. Green, * (ch 6, dc in 6th ch from hook) 13 times to measure 3¼ inches, ch 18, remove hook, insert back in starting st of ch-18, catch lp and draw thru, form­ing a ring out to left side of work. Re­peat from * 13 times (14 scallops). With row untwisted, join to starting end. ROW 2—Working back, make * sc in large lp. In same lp make (ch 1, 7 dc, ch 1, sc) 3 times, 3 sc in next dc- sp, (sc between dc, 3 sc in next dc-sp) repeated across to next large lp. Repeat from * around. ROW 3—* Ch 4 be­hind next large lp, sl st in 1st 2 sc on next sp, (ch 3, sk 1 sc, sc in next sc) repeated across to large lp. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.

Edge—Working on other side of Braid, join Green to 1st ch-5 lp on 1 section, ch 8, tr in next lp, * (ch 5, tr in next lp) 10 times, ch 3, tr in next (end) lp, tr in 1st lp on next section, ch 3, tr in next lp. Repeat from * around. Join final tr to 5th st of ch-8. ROW 2—Ch 5, sl st in same place for a p, 3 sc in next sp, * (3 sc, a p, 3 sc) in each ch-5 sp across section, 3 sc in end ch-3 sp, a p, 3 sc in 1st sp on next section. Repeat from * around, join and fasten off.

Mark each half of pillow case into 7 equal sections. With a large lp on each mark, baste Edging in even scal­lops around case. Hem inner edge down closely, cut cloth ¼ inch from stitch­ing, turn this edge back against cro­chet and hem down on back of Braid.

FLOWER—With Shd. Pinks, ch 5, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st, sc in next ch (center ch of flower), (ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st, sc in same center st) 4 times (5 petals). ROW 2—(Ch 3 behind petal, sc in next sc between petals) 5 times. ROW 3—* Ch 4, 3 tr in next ch-3 lp, ch 4, sc in same lp, ch 4, 2 tr in same lp, 1 tr in next lp, ch 4, sc in same lp, ch 4, 3 tr in same lp, ch 4, sc in same lp. Repeat from * once. Ch 4, (3 tr, ch 4, sc) in next lp. Fasten off. With Green, make a large French Knot in center. Make 1 Flower each in Shd. Yellows and Shd. Lavenders.

STEM—With Green, ch 20, * sc in 2d ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 3 ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, * ch 20, sk 1 ch, sc in next 19 ch, ch 10 and repeat from * to *, sc in next 10 ch of stem. Fasten off. Baste Stem above 1 scallop, with Shd. Pinks flower at end, Shd. Yellows flower above stem and Shd. Lavenders flower below stem, as in illustration. Sew in place. Repeat above each scallop. Steam and press dry on back thru a cloth.
