MATERIALS:
DAISY Mercerized Cro­chet Cotton size 20.—2-sks. Turquoise.
Lily Tatting Cotton.—1-ball White.
Lily Six Strand Floss.
3-sks. Shd. Roses No. 406, 2-sks. Deep Rose No. 171, 1-sk. each Chartreuse No. 189 and Shd. Greens No. 404, and scraps of Yellow No. 105.
Steel crochet hooks Nos. 12 and 14.
A 7½-inch doll.
1-yd. Black velvet ribbon ¼-inch wide.
A piece of Turquoise taffeta 5½ x 37 inches.
A 5½-inch piece of White ribbon 1-inch wide.

SKIRT—(Gauge—5 rows—1 inch)—Starting at top with Turquoise and No. 12 hook, ch 90. With ch untwisted, join with sl st to form ring. ROW 1—Ch 5, sk 2 ch of long ch, dc in next ch, (ch 2, sk next 2 ch, dc in next ch) re­peated around, ch 2, join with sl st to 3d st of ch-5 (30 sps). ROW 2—Ch 3, (3 dc in next sp, dc in next dc) re­peated around, join to ch-3 (120 dc). ROW 3—Ch 3, dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around, join (15 in­creases, 135 dc). ROW 4—Ch 3 and work even with dc in each dc around. Join. ROW 5—Ch 3, dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around, join (27 increases, 162 dc). ROW 6—Ch 3, dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeat­ed around, join (27 increases, 189 dc). ROW 7—Work even. ROW 8—Increase in every 7th dc around, the 1st ch-3 counting as 1st dc. Join (216 dc). ROW 9—Work even. ROW 10—Increase in every 12th dc around. Join (234 dc). ROW 11—Inc. in every 13th dc around. Join. ROW 12—Inc. in every 6th dc around. Join. ROW 13—Inc. in every 14th dc (315 dc). ROW 14—Work even. ROW 15—Inc. in every 15th dc. ROW 16—Work even. ROW 17—Inc. in every 16th dc (357 dc). ROW 18—Work even. ROW 19—Inc. in every 17th dc. ROW 20—Work even. ROW 21—Inc. in every 18th dc (399 dc). ROW 22—Work even. ROW 23—Inc. in every 19th dc. ROW 24—Work even. ROW 25—Inc. in every 20th dc (441 dc). ROW 26—Inc. in every 21st dc. ROW 27—Inc. in every 22d dc (483 dc). If work is done more loosely, omit enough rows so Skirt measures not more than 5½ inches long. Edge ROW 28—Sl st in each dc around, join and fasten off.

Trim—Split Six Strand Floss in half, using only 3 strands with No. 12 hook. Large Flower—With 3 strands Shd. Roses, ch 6, join with sl st to form ring. ROW 1—Ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join to 1st sc. ROW 2—(Ch 8, dtr in next sc, ch 8, sc in next sc) 4 times, ch 8, dtr in next sc, ch 5, dc in next sc. ROW 3—* Sc in center of next ch-8 lp, hdc, 6 dc, hdc and sc in balance of same lp, ch 5, sl st in last sc for a p, sc in next ch-8 lp, hdc, 6 dc, hdc and sc in half of same lp. Repeat from * around, join and fasten off. Make 4. Small Flower—With 3 strands Shd. Roses, ch 6, join with sl st to form ring. ROW 2—* Ch 4, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st, sc in ring. Repeat from * thru 5 petals. Fasten off. Make 12 in Shd. Roses and 12 in Deep Rose.

Fern Leaf—With 3 strands Chartreuse, ch 12, * 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st, sl st in next ch * (1 petal made), (ch 7 and repeat from * to *) 4 times (5 petals made), sl st in next 2 ch, (ch 5, repeat from * to *, 2 sc between next 2 petals) 3 times, make another petal, sc in each st of stem. Fasten on. Make 8.

Double Leaf—With 3 strands Shd. Greens, * ch 15, sk 1 ch, sc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, tr in next 4 ch, dc in next 2 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in end ch. ** Repeat from * once, fasten off. Make 8.

Mark Skirt into 4 equal sections,—cen­ter front, center back (joining of rows), and center of each side. Sew Large Flower on each mark 4 rows above bot­tom edge. Following Chart, arrange re­maining flowers and leaves between Large Flowers and sew in place. Make 4 French Knots in center of Large Flowers, winding 6 strands Deep Rose 5 times around needle. Make 1 French Knot in center of each Small Flower with 6 strands Yellow. Pin Skirt right-side-down in a true circle. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.

BODICE—With Tatting Cotton and No. 14 hook, ch 97. ROW 1—In 8th ch from hook make dc, ch 2, dc (a shell made), (sk next 2 ch, in next ch make dc, ch 2, dc) 29 times, ch 1, dc in end ch (30 shells in row). ROW 2—Ch 4, turn, a shell in center ch-2 sp of each shell across, ch 1, dc in end sp. Repeat twice (thru Row 4). ROW 5—Ch 4, turn, a shell in next 5 shells, (ch 2, sc in next shell) 5 times, ch 2, a shell in next 10 shells, (ch 2, sc in next shell) 5 times, ch 2, a shell in next 5 shells, ch 1, dc in end sp. ROW 6—Ch 4, turn, a shell in next 5 shells, ch 2, (2 sc in next ch-2 sp) 6 times, ch 2, a shell in next 10 shells, ch 2, (2 sc in next ch- 2 sp) 6 times, ch 2, a shell in next 5 shells, ch 1, dc in end sp. ROW 7—Ch 1, turn, sc in 1st ch-1 sp, (ch 2, sc in next shell) 5 times, ch 14, sk under­arm, sc in 1st shell on Front, (ch 2, sc in next shell) 9 times, ch 14, sk underarm, sc in 1st shell on Back, (ch 2, sc in next shell) 4 times, ch 2, sc in end sp. ROW 8—Ch 1, turn, (2 sc in next ch-2 sp) 5 times, ch 2, 14 sc in ch-14 lp, ch 2, (2 sc in next ch-2 sp on Front) 9 times, ch 2, 14 sc in next ch-14 lp, ch 2, (2 sc in next ch-2 sp) 5 times. Fasten off. Ruffle—(Ch 5, dc in 5th ch from hook) 21 times. ROW 2—Ch 1, sc in bar of last dc, ch 4, sc in same place, (ch 4, sc in next sp, ch 4, sc in same place) repeated across (41 lps). ROW 3—Ch 6, turn, sc in 1st lp, (ch 4, sc in next lp) repeated across. Repeat for Row 4. ROW 5—Ch 6, turn, sc in 1st lp, ch 4, sc in next lp, * ch 4, sc in same lp, (ch 4, sc in next lp) twice. Repeat from * across (61 lps). Repeat Row 3 twice. ROW 8—Ch 3, turn, dc in 1st lp, * (ch 2, dc) 4 times in next lp, ch 2, dc in next lp, dc in next lp. Repeat from * around (20 shells). ROW 9—Ch 1, turn, sk 1st 2 dc, sc in next ch-2 sp, * (ch 3, sc in next sp) twice, ch 5, sc in same sp with last sc, (ch 3, sc in next sp) twice, sc between 2 dc in angle be­tween shells, sc in next ch-2 sp. Re­peat from * around. Fasten off. Sew top of Ruffle around neck and across shoul­der straps of Bodice. Counting from each end, tack 3d shell to the next 5th shell to form sleeves. This leaves 4 shells free across Front.

PANTIES—Cut a piece of taffeta 2¾ x 5½ inches. Hem one long side, seam ends tog. and gather top tightly around waist of doll. Tack bottom edge tog, between legs.

SLIP—Cut a strip of taffeta 34 inches long and as wide as length of Skirt. Hem one long side, seam ends tog. and gather top tightly around waist. Sew 1-inch wide ribbon tightly around body, sewing bottom edge over skirt gathers. Put dress on doll, sew up back of Bodice and Ruffle, sew bottom of Bodice to top of Skirt. Run half of Black velvet ribbon thru Beading Row 1 of Skirt and tie tightly in a bow in back.

HATCrown—With Turquoise, ch 7, join with sl st to form ring. ROW 1—Ch 3, 17 dc in ring, join to top of ch-3. Pick up single back lp only of each st in following rows. ROW 2—Ch 3, dc in same st with sl st, (2 dc in next dc) 17 times, join to ch-3 (36 dc). ROW 3—Ch 3, dc in same st with sl st, (dc in next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around, join (48 dc). ROW 4—Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc) repeated around, join (56 dc). ROW 5—Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each dc around. Mark end of each following row. BrimROW 6—With­out joining, sc in next 6 sc, hdc in next 2 sc, 2 hdc in next sc, (dc in next 2 sc, 2 dc in next sc) 12 times, dc in next 2 sc, 2 hdc in next sc, hdc in next 2 sc, sc in next 6 sc (70 sts). ROW 7—Sc in next 8 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, (dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st) 9 times, dc in next 4 dc, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts, sl st in next st. ROW 8—Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st) 15 times, dc in next 5 sts, join to ch-3. ROW 9—Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 18 times, dc in next 6 dc, join to ch-3. ROW 10—Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 22 times, dc in next 5 dc, join to ch-3. ROW 11—Ch 3, (dc in next 9 dc, 2 dc in next dc) 13 times, dc in next 8 dc, join to ch-3. ROW 12—Sl st in both lps of each dc around, join and fasten off.

Make 2 Small Flowers in Shd. Roses and 2 in Deep Rose. Sew 1 of each color close to edge of Brim at left front. Sew other 2 flowers directly be­low on underside of Brim.

Fern—With 3 strands Chartreuse, ch 10, * 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sl st in same st, sl st in next ch, * ch 7, repeat from * to *, sl st in next 2 ch, ch 5, repeat from * to *, sc in each st of stem. Fasten off. Make 2. Sew 1 on top and 1 on underside of Brim, out from flowers toward the front. Leaf—Repeat Double Leaf to **. Fas­ten off. Make a 2d Leaf. Sew 1 on top and 1 on underside of Brim, out from flowers towards the back.

Starch Hat lightly. When dry, tack re­maining ribbon around crown, pleating it into a point at front. Tie ends in a bow at back. Sew Hat on head.
