Sugar Plum Potholder Pattern #9071

MATERIALS:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Gimp, 1 tube of each of 2 colors.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4.
A bone ring.

Starting at one side, with 1st color, make a chain 7 inches long. Now work tightly. 1st row: 3 tr in 5th ch from hook, ch 1, 4 tr in same place, * skip 1 ch, sl st in next ch, skip 1 ch; in next ch make 4 tr, ch 1 and 4 tr (2 shells made). Repeat from * across, ending with 4 tr in last ch (half shell). Fasten off. Attach 2nd color, ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * In back loop of sl st (between shells) make a shell; sl st in ch-1 of next shell. Repeat from * across, ending with half shell in last tr of last shell. Repeat 2nd row, alternating 1 row of each color, until piece forms a square. Fasten off. Sew ring to one corner.
