Join. 4th rnd: Ch 4, in every other d c around make a tr-pc with ch-2 between (22 tr-pc's). 5th rnd: Like 3rd rnd, increasing if necessary to keep work flat. Join. 6th rnd: Ch 3, d c in each sp between d c's, increasing if necessary to keep work flat. Join. Repeat 6th rnd until piece measures 6½ inches in diameter. Now work in rows. 1st row: Ch 4, d c in same st (increase), d c in next 2 sts, half d c in next 3 sts, s c in next 13 sts, half d c in next 3 sts, d c in next 2 sts, 2 d c in next st (increase). Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: D c across, increasing 1 st in first 2 and in last 2 sts (31 sts). Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Work 1 st in each st in following order: * s c, half d c, d c, tr, d c, half d c. Repeat from * across, ending with s c. Fasten off. 4th row: Attach contrasting color, ch 4, * d c in half d c, half d c in d c, s c in tr, half d c in d c, in half d c, tr in s c. Back … Ch 3, 8 s c in 2nd ch from hook; join. 2nd rnd: Make d c around, increasing to keep work flat. Join. Then work as for 6th rnd of front until piece is same size as front, ending with a row of s c, if necessary, to obtain desired size. Then work top of bowl to correspond with front.

Handles … Cut eight 27-inch strands of contrasting color and make two 3¾-inch chains. Insert pad (see patternbook page) and join front and back by overcasting edges neatly, at the same time sewing handles securely in place, as in illustration, between padding and back piece.

Pitcher … Work front and back as for bowl, but do not increase at handle edge of row section at top. Make only 1 handle, to be sewn in place as in illustration.
