Size 48 x 72 inches

MATERIAL:
6 skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein) black
2 skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein) each french blue, red, light grey, gold and rose
1 aluminum crochet hook No. 5 or F

GAUGE: Each square should measure 3½ inch, across center.

SQUARE: (make 260)
     Ch. 4, join to a ring. 1st round: ch. 3, work 2 d.c. in ring, ch. 2, * 3 d.c. in ring, ch. 2, repeat from * twice more, join to top of ch. 3. (There are now 4 shells with a ch. 2 space in between.) Fasten off. 2nd round: Do not turn. With next color make a loop on hook, slip st. in a ch. 2 corner space, ch. 3, 2 d.c. in same space, ch. 2 (corner), 3 d.c. (shell) in same space, ch. 1, * 3 d.c., ch. 2, 3 d.c. in next corner space, ch. 1, repeat from * around, end join with a slip st. to top of ch. 3, fasten off. 3rd round: Do not turn. With next color make a loop on hook, slip st. in a ch. 2 corner space, ch. 3, 2 d.c. in same space, ch. 2 (corner), 3 d.c. (shell) in same space, ch. 1, * 3 d.c. in space in between next 2 shells, ch. 1, 3 d.c., ch. 2, 3 d.c. in next corner space, ch. 1. Repeat from * around, end join with a slip st. to top of ch. 3, fasten off. 4th round: Do not turn. With black make a loop on hook, slip st. in a ch. 2 corner space, ch. 3, 2 d.c. in same space, ch. 2 (corner) 3 d.c. (shell) in same space, ch. 1, * 3 d.c. in space in between next 2 shells, ch. 1, 3 d.c. in space in between next 2 shells, 3 d.c., ch. 2, 3 d.c. in next corner space, ch. 1, repeat from * around, end join with a slip st. to top of ch. 3, fasten off.
     Make first 3 rounds of squares in different color combinations and work 4th round on all of them in black.

FINISHING:
     Wrong side facing you, with black sew squares together with an overhand st. Taking up top tread of each st. on each edge only. Arrange squares 13 across and 20 in length.

BORDER:
     Right side facing you, with black work 10 d.c. in a corner space, * 1 s.c. in next space, 7 d.c. in next space. Repeat from * to next corner. Work corner as before and cont. to work shells on rem. 3 sides and corners as first one. Fasten off and block to size.
