Here are Boots and Slippers for use around the house that will permit you to add to your wardrobe • not tax the facilities of hard pressed manufacturers. The soles are double layers, of Enterprise Yarn, crocheted firm and heavy • they may be sized with lacquer (like the back of a rug) or stiffened with a layer of fiber board between the 2 pieces of the sole • cut the board to fit after crocheting. No. 1 Steel Crochet Hook used for all shoes.
SOLES: These slippers all are to be crocheted on the same sole. Adult or children's soles are alike except for changes where fewer sts are required for the smaller sizes,—use figures for child's sizes at points where indicated in instructions.
Measure length of foot—plus ¼"—make a chain 2½" shorter (childs; 2" shorter) than measurements. 2 sc in second st from hook, sc in each st to center ch, hdc in 4 sts (childs; 2 sts) dc to fourth st (childs; third st) from end, hdc in 2 sts (childs; in next st) 5 sc in end st. On other side of chain, hdc in 2 sts (childs; in next st) dc in each st opposite dc on other side, hdc in 4 sts, (childs; 2 sts) sc to end. In both loops, 3 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next, and continue with 5 rows (childs; 4 rows) of sc around. Increase 3 sc around toe in each row, with 2 sc between inc. Inc 3 sc at heel in each row, with sc between increases.
ROW 7: (Childs; Row 6) 1 sl st in both loops of each sc. Fasten off. Make a second piece, to be exactly same size and sew together back-to-back thru 1 loop of each sc on edge.
MATERIALS: 2 balls Lt. Blue and 1 ball Dk. Rose (or other colors).
Make under-sole Blue, top-sole Dk. Rose. Sew together with Blue.
Make center sl st at toe end of upper-sole. Count to 42nd sl st on each side and mark. With under-sole toward you, make 1 sc in Blue in outside loop of each sl st on upper-sole, from one mark around to other side mark (85 sc).
ROW 2: Ch 2, turn, skip last 2 sc, sc in next, * ch 3, 2 dc in same st, holding last loop of each dc on hook, yarn over and thru 3 loops at once (a Cluster), a 2-dc Cluster in next sc, sc in next third sc (1 shell). Repeat from * around (20 shells).
ROW 3: Ch 1, turn, sl st up to 3-ch, * ch 3, (2-dc Cluster) twice in same 3-ch, sc in 3-ch top of next shell. Repeat from * around (19 shells).
ROW 4: Start as in last row and make 8 shells, (sc in next shell) twice, then 8 shells.
ROW 5: Start as before, 7 shells, sc in next shell, 7 shells.
ROW 6: 5 shells, skip 2 center shells, sc in next, 5 shells.
ROW 7: 1 shell, skip 6 center shells, sc in next, 1 shell. Fasten off. Tack last 2 shells together, the tips of next 2 center pairs together, then lap the next 2 pairs slightly and tack.
Join Rose to sole, (ch 4, hdc in fourth ch st from hook, sc between next 2 shells) 12 times around top. Fasten off.
FLOWER: In Rose, ch 2, 8 sc in starting st. In back loops, sl st in first sc, (ch 4, sl st in third st from hook, ch 1, sl st in next sc) 8 times. Fasten off. Tack on center front.
