Lover's Knot Set Pattern

Size: Infants

REQUIREMENTS:                      

YARN: 4-ounces of 3-ply Baby Yarn
CROCHET HOOK: #4 Bone

SWEATER: Starting at the neck edge. Chain 85 sts; 1 d c in 3rd ch from hook and in each of the remaining ch, (83 sts and the first ch makes 84 sts in all). Ch 3, turn. Note: The turning ch will always count as 1 st hereafter. 2nd row: Make * 1 d c in next 2 sts; 2 dc in next st; repeat from * across row, (111 sts). Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Make 1 d c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Make * 1 d c in next 3 sts; 2 d c in next st; repeat from * across row, (138 sts). Ch 3, turn. 5th row: Make 1 d c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. 6th row: Make * 1 d c in next 6 sts; 2 d c in next st; repeat from * across row, (157 sts). Ch 3, turn. 7th row: Make 1 d c in each st across row. Ch 3, turn. 8th row: Make * 1 d c in next 7 sts; 2 d c in next st; repeat from * across row, (176 sts). Ch 3, turn. 9th row: Make 1 dc in each st across row.

BODY PART: LOVERS KNOT PATTERN: * Pull up a loop ½ inch long, draw yarn through this loop, work 1 s c in space between loop and single thread to keep from slipping. Repeat from * once more, (this is one "knot st"); skip 3 sts, 1 s c in next st; * repeat between *'s over 25 sts; skip the next 40 sts (this is for one sleeve to be worked later); repeat between *'s over 46 sts; skip the next 40 sts, (this is the 2nd sleeve); work between *'s on the remaining 25 sts. To turn make a complete knot st. ROW 2: Work 1 s c in s c at center of last "knot st" on row below. Work in "knot st" across row, working 1 s c in center of each "knot st" on row below. To turn make a complete knot st. Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 6 inches from yoke. Break yarn.

SLEEVES: Join yarn at the underarm and work back and forth in the pattern as on body part until the sleeve measures 5½ inches from yoke. Break yarn. Make the 2nd sleeve the same way. Sew underarm seams.

BOOTIES: Instep and sole: Chain 10 sts, turn, 1 s c in 2nd st from hook and in each of next 8 sts. Ch 1, turn. Work in s c, st for st, for 8 rows more. Chain 24 sts, join with a slip st to corner; 9 s c along side of instep; 9 s c across toe, 9 s c along 2nd side of instep; 1 s c in each ch, (51 sts). Work around in s c for 8 more rows. Break yarn. Fold in two and sew along bottom. TOP PART: Tie yarn at 12th st of the chain at the back and work back and forth in the pattern as on the sweater for 3 inches. Break yarn. Sew up back of bootie. Make the 2nd bootie the same way.

BONNET: Starting at the center back: Ch 3 sts, join with a slip st to form a ring. 2nd round: 2 s c in each st. (Mark the beginning of the round with a colored thread as an aid in counting,) 3rd round: 1 s c in next st, 2 s c in next st, repeat around once. 4th round: 1 s c in next 2 sts; 2 s c in next st; repeat around once. Keep increasing 6 sts on a round, having 1 more st between each increase until you have 14 sts between increases, (96 sts). Work over 80 sts in the lover's knot pattern. Turn, work back and forth in the pattern as on the sweater until the piece measures 4 inches from back of crown, (where last s c row was made). Band at front: Make 1 row of s c, taking it in to fit the head size wanted, (about 1 s c over each loop and into the s c on row below). Ch 1, turn. Make 3 rows more of s c, placing 1 s c into each st on row below. NECK BAND: Tie yarn at the front edge, working on the side of bonnet as follows: Make 1 s c in each row of front band, * 2 s c over loop, 1 s c in s c, repeat from * across front; 1 s c in each s c across back; repeat from * across 2nd side front; 1 s c in each row of front band. Ch 1, turn. Make 3 rows more of s c, placing 1 s c in each st on row below. Break yarn. Trim set with ribbon.
