Ch 6, 1 d c in 1st st of ch, * ch 6, and without turning make 1 d c in ring formed by last ch-6 and d c. Repeat from * for length required. 2nd row: Ch 8, turn. 1 s c in last ch-6 loop, * ch 5, 1 s c in next, repeat from *. Repeat for a 3rd row. Fasten off. Points. Join to last loop, * (ch 5, 1 s c in next loop) 6 times, ch 2, 1 d c in next loop, turn; (ch 5, 1 s c in next loop) 5 times, ch 2, 1 d c in next loop. Make 5 more rows, each row 1 loop shorter. Last row will have one ch-5 loop in it. Fasten off. Join again to next loop beyond base of point and repeat from * to end of lace. Fasten off. Now repeat from beginning of directions, making another row of points. On each point of this row, in place of the last ch-5 loop of last row of point, ch 3 and sl st in last loop of a point of 1st row of points, ch 3, 1 s c back on last point—thus joining the 2 rows of points. This forms a row of open squares down center of lace. To fill in these, make a p-loop of ch-3, a ch-5 p, (ch 1, p) twice, ch 3, sl st in 1 corner of a square, make another p-loop and sl st in 1st st of 1st p-loop, another p-loop and sl st in next corner of square, another p loop and sl st in same 1st st of 1st p-loop. Continue on around with 2 more double-p-loops, until square is filled in. Fasten off.
